So my dad got asked by some clients that he does business with to go Pheasant hunting and Steelhead fishing in Idaho. He came back after a few days of hunting some pheasants on a private farm and Steelheading on a river and is all excited about hunting now. I've never done any hunting but his clients bought him and gave him a Ruger Red Label 28" barrel over-and-under shotgun and I think it's 12 gauge I'm not sure. What sort of stuff are they good for? I'd imagine pheasants for sure since they bought the gun for that reason? Any way they would be good for clay shooting? I think that is all we are going to end up using it for if it works well for clays? And how nice are the guns? I really have no idea on anything about guns or hunting so anything would help.

FH07, Ruger has been around longer than some not as long as others All are still trying to stay competitive and in buisness. You can not beat the price of free however a gas opperated autoloader will not beat you up after repeated firing at clay targets like a fixed breach one. if you are shooting one ounce loads the recoil will be considerably less than one and a eighth loads. It all depends on how much you shoot and how many shots in the outing . I reload my own target loads not my hunting ones. just my opioion Glenn

Didn't really understand what you said. Not really considering becoming an avid hunter, just wondering if the gun would be fine to keep for a little clay shooting thats all. I wouldn't ever think I or my dad would consider buying anew gun so if this one works for clay shooting I think we might get a little use out of it.

Any new name brand O/U runs in the 1k neighborhood.

For clays? It should be the mutt's nuts. Just make sure you change your choke tubes from Full or Modified to Improved cylinder or less. Cant speak for your dad's ability though. Even a $5k custom made work of art won't help a lousy shot.
