picked up a Bergara B-14 HMR (Hunting and Match Rifle) today in 6.5 Creed... looked at just about everything, Savage (almost bought a 12 FC that was 100 bucks more, but was bulky and i didnt like the stock really), Ruger, Tikka, ect... settled on this after reading multiple reviews and talking to the counter guys whome a couple of are active and non active military....

its sub-moa guaranteed, and many people shoot well over 1k yards with theirs...

its basically a tuned up 700, adjustable target stock, threaded barrel, ect...

trigger is very nice, much nicer than my 700 X Mark...

they make a "pro" model, that comes with a Trigger Tech trigger, and a couple other things, but is 800 bucks more and i didnt feel like seeking one out....

the Tikka was nice, but the mags for it, are 100 bucks... these are 30 or under depending....

ill get the same 40 MOA rail i got for the 700, but for now, since i cant shoot magnum cartridges at Range 15 on base, i will steal the SWFA off the 700 and put it on this, so i can use it, and get used to it, with a rifle that costs half as much to shoot, and the recoil is significantly less...

overall, im happy.... for now... as usual rofl

Hunting?

Hunt what? You gonna pack that thing up and down the mountains? What does that all weigh, presuming you put some mounts and scope on it?

You go to Iderho to varmint a lot, huh? That's a hell of a big varmint for a 6.5 Creed.

rofl

How do you afford all of these guns?

Seem to recall some old dude hinting strongly toward the svelte SA camp for the same reasons as you salivated over a 300WM. As to your new acquisition, chunk rifles, and their bearers, are happiest when they are static and not being humped a few thousand feet of vertical elevation in pursuit of cloven-hoofed critters.

Most tend to not use an 8# sledge hammer to hang a painting....

no hunting, just target stuff, so no need to really worry about packing it... it weighs 9 pounds naked, the same as the 700 i have...

i dont really have a lot of guns Parker, i have my XD which i bought used but basically new, 4 years ago, my .38 that i carry in the summer, used, a couple years ago, i have the 10/22 that i did about 3 years ago, the cheapo Mossberg 12 gauge that i paid 190 bucks for new, and that shotgun of Katies... oh, and my grandpas S & W Model 10-2 .38...

then more recently, the 700 that i got on sale, and a 150 dollar rebate on, the MPR that i got a excellent deal on at 742 out the door, and this, that i got on sale for 899 down from 1k+...

basically, ive stopped spending so much money on bullsh!t, and save, i set a "target" in this case was the Ruger RPR, which is 1500 bucks, well, after talking to several people, reading other forums, and whatnot, i didnt like what they had to say about certain things so i went with the Bergara...

so now, as with the MPR which i figured i would spend around 11-1200 for a AR, which i didnt, i saved 600 dollars from my original target of 1500....

which now lets me do 1 of 2 things... i can either rebarrel the MPR as i kinda want to, or, i can buy a .224 Valk upper, as both are going to be under that 600 dollar mark.... problem with the .224 im finding, is finding ammo for it... Walmart has 2 boxes of Federal and thats it... Sportsmans has none at all that ive seen....

after my dad died i kinda changed my perspective on how i did things... going to the bar and spending 500 bucks a weekend, buying people drinks, ect, just wasnt the right thing to be doing... so now, im much more alert and careful about what i do with money...

i honestly only enjoy doing 2 things, fishing, and shooting... so i direct my attention towards those 2 things, for the most part...

Driftin', i can actually get the ammo for the .300 cheaper, at like 23 bucks a box, but its not that great of ammo for what i want to do with it... hunting sure, accuracy that im expecting, not so much.... i do and have however wanted a chassis rifle, so i think im going to buy a chassis for it at some point in the near future maybe, havent decided... i could keep it as it is and go hunting with my brother for Elk with it... but i honestly dont really care to hunt.... havent decided on that... but not being allowed to shoot magnums at the base, means it sits here... so, who knows, maybe ill even end up trading it for something, like i said, havent decided yet....

got the rail today, its a Warne, [Bleeeeep!] Sportsmans charges alot.... i have the Wheeler wrench coming tomorrow, so i will wait till it gets here and do everything the right way the first time....

im also doing something different with "round testing" this time.... with the other rifles (AR was actually really easy), i ended up buying expensive ammo, getting everything sighted in, and by the time i was happy, and wanted to start trying other stuff to really get a good look at everything, i was out of ammo....

so i bought some S&B Tactical 140 grain FMJ ammo that was 13 bucks a box... then i got some Atomic with 142 grain SMK, some Winchester Match 140 BTHP, and some Hornady Match 147 grain ELD...

ill get it on paper with the S&B and start figuring out what it likes, faster, and cheaper....

somethings not right here... they say this rifle weighs 9 pounds, and the 700 weighs 9 pounds...

this with a scope feels lighter than the 700 without one...

not sure if its been because ive been shooting more, or weights, or what, but its definitely lighter...

kinda odd...

anyways, took it to the range today... shoots pretty well actually... for factory ammo atleast... just my luck, the most expensive one shot the best (Atomic with 142 SMK), the 147 grain ELD did almost the same, so im going to run some 140s and 143s through it next time... the Win Match did about the same as well, all under MOA once i got everything in order and started testing...

Atomic 142 Sierra Match King

i really like that scope, getting used to the reticle now for sure, after the last group (Atomic), i jumped to 300, missed a couple times because of my judgement at first (went with the first line, instead of the diamond), but then put the diamond on the plate and it was hits every single time for the last 20 rounds.... was hitting the plate so hard it was nearly flipping it around in a 360 over the rail....

glass is super clear... a few guys have let me look through their 2-6k dollar scopes, and this is up there all the way... they just have more reticle crap and other features is all... clarity, is money tho for sure....

I didn't weigh the 700, but the HMR came in at 11.4 pounds... Sure doesn't feel like it...

nah.. im happy..

didnt care for the stock on the Ruger, could have changed it to a PRS stock but thats another 250+ bucks...

plus, its hard to argue .5 MOA out of the box with factory ammo...

with hand loads, im sure i could get that down to .1-.2 easily...

plus, its really tough to find a Ruger RPR right now, anywhere...

ill turn my 700 into a chassis rifle if i decide i really want one that bad, that way i can do it just the way i want it, and not have to buy something that i dont like certain things about...

i had a lot of fun shooting this rifle, go try one, or dont....
