Next weekend...after I get one. Hunting on the wetside was tough for us with the nice weather and all. Didn't seem to be a lot of movement, and the deer that we did see were either bedded down or we just caught a brief look at them in the brush at first light. Did catch a glimpse of a couple real monsters that just didn't show themselves long enough for a shot. Ugh, is it Friday yet? This week is already starting to drag.

got this fella at 7:13am on saturday morning on private land in NE washington. shot him from a treestand at around 50 yds. he was travelling with a little fork horned buck that just stood there after his buddy fell. the weather was perfect--around 36 in the am, about 55 in the afternoon. good weekend....

oops. NE washington. stevens county. those deer get fat on the dairy farmer's alfalfa. i think wdfw gave out something like 600 doe tags this year based on the herd size and the fact that they eat all the cow's food. there are quite a few muleys around, and i've seen both moose and elk tracks on the property.

Nice "wheat rat"! Good body size to it as well. Some guys I know in Idaho call those deer wheat rats. I've never shot a white tail, but I plan to change that in November in Idaho.

Thanks for sharing the pic.

thanks. we threw it on the scale, and it weighed 205 on the hoof. gutted, with the head and hide off, it weighed 108. figure close to half of that being bones and such, you end up with 50# of meat or so. they feed off that wheat and alfalfa and they're the best tasting deer. good luck in idaho!

I went duck hunting. And I shot video so no picks. The tide was tough on us, but there was a "few" ducks around. At dawn a "few" got up off the sandbar out in front of us about 100 yards, and both of the guys with me (Dad and Cousin) thought it was a tidal wave because it was so loud and dense. They were both getting ready to run. That was the highlight of the hunt.

So Dogfish, next time you see my old man ask him about the tidal wave on opening day.

My buddy shot a 4x4 with double kickers on his left side and sporting 3 1/2" eyeguards. Green gross scored 154 4/8". Another buddy is the local taxidermist and he called me a couple nights ago to come over and look at a bigger one. It was 23" wide with 10" deep forks. Some big bucks got killed on that blue bird opener. Way out of character for big blackies.

Western Washington has a few Columbian Whitetails. Not many but they're out there. Mostly down in the SW corner near the ocean.

A couple years ago while driving from Cathcart to Everett on Lowell Larimer Rd. a small group (5?) deer with 2' tall tails flagging ran accross the road in front of me. Now, unless blacktail have evolved whitetail type signal tails, those deer I almost hit were indeed whitetails. How they got there, I have no idea. I have spoken to others who claim to have seen them too.
