Time to replace my stolen stuff,I'm starting with the rod,
I'm thinking really hard about moving up to a GLoomis probably the 1143 GL-3,
But I'm really curious about the Lamiglas certified pro series, any comments,I still own a lami 1324t 9' 8 to 12 med. is the certified pro a major step-up,thanks for you're input,I wouldn't mind a custom built but I'm not waiting 3 weeks for rod

I've got 2 drift rods:

- GLoomis 1143C (6-12lb)
- Lami Herzog 10' (6-10lb) (Don't know the model number because I built it a while ago)

The Lami Herzog series are longer rods that are made of the Certified Pro graphite. The 1143 has a little more backbone; I use it for winter-run and snow-melt early summer-runs. The Lami I use primarily during mid- to late-summer.

Both are great rods!

O's, I run the lami in g-1000/certified pro and the espirit models. My personal opinion is that any of the mentioned rods feel better then the g-loomis gl-2's but when put up too the gl-3's it's a nother story. The gl-2's seem to spongey and the gl-3's are out of my price range. So I stay with the lami's.
I due have a 9'-6" gl-3 4-8 ultra light spinning rod that kicks some a$$.As far as the drift rod question,I think it depends on the person who uses it to determain wether to go with a 4-8 or 8-12 or 8-17 and on down the line.My favorite hands down drift rod and set up for steelies is the lami 8' 6"
6-10 summer run espirit with a calcutta 151 with 10lb maxima ultra green for winter and
summer run.Good luck,

I have two gl 3's and a 9'6" certified pro and I love all three. the certified pro is rated 6-15lbs one gl 3 is 9' 6-10lb and a 10'6" 6-12lb the 9' gl 3 is a little light for winter run but the 10'6" has much more backbone than what it is rated for. I use it on kings and chums and it will handle what ever you throw at it. the certified pro is a great rod for the price. it isn't quite as sensitive as the gl 3 but I use it as much as my 10'6" gl 3 and it has some good backbone as well. for the money you can't beat the certified pro.

I hate to sound like a broken record every time this subject comes up but I love my GL 1143 spinning model that TH Rods made for me. I mostly fish jigs and hardware on fireline with it so I can't really talk much about it as a drift rod but a friend drifts with the same model and says it's the best he's had.

Good luck. Nice to see the insurance ferry will be bringing you some fine holiday treats.

My primary drift rod is a Certified Pro X96MC-T, and it has the same specs as a STR 1143. Can't draw comprehensive comparisons since my experience with a 1143 is limited to a handful of casts, but I'd say the sensitivity is comparable. The 1143 does seem to have more backbone, but I've handled a number of stubborn steelhead in the mid to upper teens with the CP and had no problem. Lamiglas lists the model I have for $240, but I almost always see them in stores for somewhat less.

I'm curious about Lamiglas' titanium (Ti2000) rods. Anyone have a strong endorsement?

The 1143 is a nice rod ... I've fished one a few times. But I like a shorter rod from the boat ... 1024's in lower water / 1025's in higher. The choice between those two ... 1024 if you spend more than 1/3 of you days fishing summer / low flows, 1025 otherwise. Remember ... a light action rod turns to mush when drifting with heavier leads and it may actually do the opposite of what one might think ... result in less sensitivity to the bottom and bite when fished overloaded.

Thanks for the input Guys,I also perfer a lighter tip over a stiffer one,I understand the concept of overloading the tip with too much weight,
I wish I could afford more than 1 but alas no,I understand no rod does it all,by hey my old series one never complained,it just caught fish.
I resently stopped by Auburn sports Boy have they got a great selection, and a new policy on GLoomis returns, the do it all there,if you purchased the rod from them just bring it in ,they exchange it on the spot,if they don't have you're model in then 2-3days....no questions asked.Gotta love it,does thing mean I have to trade in my Ford pick-up for a Land Rover now

I agree with bob on the higher water rod, I also use a IMX 1025C but in the lower summer conditions I like to add six inches to the rod and instead of the 1024 I like the 1084C in the IMX, I feel that is the ultimate rod in mid to lower conditions.

My favorite is the IMX ST 1084C a close second is the 1025... our rivers are smaller and don't require the longer rods...

The 1143 is a great rod. Its a little light for higher flows and heavier wieghts. If fishing those conditions I use my STR 1025 C IMX. If I had to have just 1 drift rod I would go with a STR 1084 C IMX. Lots of backbone and a sensitive tip.

Well you have seen all of the choices but if you are going to buy one rod and have the money to spend get the GLOOMIS STR1084C in the IMX. This way you will have a rod that is a great drift rod for low to high water. If you plan on pulling on chinook also dont forget about the 1021 IMX a 8'6" 10-20 lb rod that does job on bigger fish in bigger water also a great trolling rod.

Since you're rebuilding your rod stash. You can't go wrong with a 1025c in whatever model fits your budget. This rod covers most angling applications both river and salt.

I too, love my STR 1084 C IMX rod, although I have to break in my new one, since thoroughly destroying it on the Toutle this fall. What was a two piece ended up a four piece pack rod. Loomis replaced that rod, but the thing that I noticed was that the original had a wood inset on the trigger and the new one has cork instead. I used this rod in Alaska last year and fought many brute steelhead and was suprized when this rod blew, it is a great feeling rod though.
By the way, are any of you fellow Piscatorial fishers, the guy who was standing next to me when he blew his 10 ft loomis? I was the guy who switched to the Lamiglas certified pro on the return trip from my truck and fished next to you several times....you die-hard!

Just remember a rod is like any tool....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.......No a loomis rod wont make you a better fisherman or cause you to catch more fish....Its just a pleasure to fish with, light lots of power and very sensative. Lamiglas is a great fishing rod,and they have really good customer service.
But they still dont compare to Loomis. The GL3 you talked about getting is a great rod,and it really isnt that expensive when you consider its a life time investment. Spend the money buy the Loomis GL3 you wont be sorry.
When are you going to get that cataraft club started? Would love to get in....Jeff

Thanks for all the responces Guys( u-2 Head)
Picking one rod for all is tough,I didn't care for the reel seat on the IMX's it's not an exposed blank???whats up with that ,it's so sensitive you don't need it
I like the 1084's all right.
I really like the 1143,the little xtra length comes in handy for those bigger fish of course you can boondog with it and probably float fish also..picking one sure didn't know it would be this much fun...reels anyone
btw :JF we will get rowing as soon as some real fish and more water show up...soon I hope but first I need to take the skunk off my rod and reel...Os
