I'm planning on making it up there, weather permitting. I went out after tuna there on the 16th (the day it closed for salmon) and I talked to the fish checker. He said the silver bite had been good but hardly any kings. Hopefully a couple weeks will make a difference but personally if i can catch some 15 plus silvers i'm happy! GOOD LUCK!

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/23/07 09:19 PM

Its at LaPush, its a late bubble fishery usually with some monster kings and some big fat Coho. Can be hot like last year, but usually have to work for your fish.

Westport is closed for the season.

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/25/07 08:24 PM

I fished Lp Sat & Sun and only heard of a few fish both days.
We did not have a bite saturday and on sunday at the rock pile a sea lion ripped me off of my only king.
Bottom fishen we limited both days.
That was the slowest i've ever seen it up there. The fish were no where to be found, I saw very little bait.
It was a little sloppy out there both days in the AM but it layed down to 8' seas in after noon

Bad weather and black kings is the norm for that derby, sounds like fun.

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/25/07 09:30 PM

in two years we caught 2 salmon, a 24lb king that missed the ladder and a 12lb silver that was on it but fell off day 2...not worth my time to go out there and catch 2 fish for 4 days fishing, although the 1st year we took first in the linger category with a 19.8lb fish of cake rock

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/25/07 10:34 PM

oh...as for the Seiku derby..its the Lions club putting it on...i belive that the tickets are 10 bucks...40 percent payout to first 20 for second 10 for third and 5 for fouth...it does not say anything about other prizes as far as i know...just called up there...hard to have a derby last min, and dont know why they did it against the La Push derby, but i think it was a last min thing...i would do La Push if i could...Seiku is just Coho...c

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/25/07 11:08 PM

I don't have alot of experience fishing the late fishery but last year it was great for kings. They weren't dark boots they were total chrome and from what i could see they seemed to average in the mid twenties. Nice fish. Last year there were hardly any silvers around in the sound and out there as well so i don't know if its usually productive for them? I know they ones are nice size from the fish i've caught in the river(s). I'd guess av.fish to be 12-13 or so.

Re: Who's fishing Last Chance Derby? - 09/26/07 12:24 AM

The LaPush coast guard station 1610 AM called for 10-12' seas with 10 seconds with 10-20 mph winds for saturday and sunday it was 10-12' seas at 8 seconds with winds 20-30 last W/E and no boats under 16'. I fished it in my 18' laguna all day long with out getting beat up to bad. But the weather station was not very accurate, the waves were big, but no wind, and the further out I went the less wave action.
The last couple of years I have had no problem getting my 2 King quota, this year it is only one K and one clipped Silver, and I had trouble finding even one and when I did the sealion got it. This was the earliest I have fished it for the bubble and the worst seas i have fished in there since the 70's, but I only started going back there 4 years ago, use to fish there all the time in the 70's

Looks like a definite NO GO for this fishing team on Sat - Sun.

By the way the weather report reads, ISAT...S WIND 10 TO 20 KT RISING TO 20 TO 30 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT...BUILDING TO 5 TO 7 FT BY LATE AFTERNOON. W SWELL 9 FT.

SUN...S WIND 20 TO 30 KT...EASING TO SW 10 TO 20 KT IN THE EVENING. WIND WAVES 5 TO 7 FT...SUBSIDING TO 2 TO 4 FT. W SWELL 11 FT.
don't even think the USCG will be opening the bar for us. If they do, its going to be tough fishing.
