we did it but with bobbers and some slinkies at times...you need to find a rocky point that you wont get blown off...there tight to the rocks alot of times and will rip the rod out of your hand on the strike if your day dreaming or cast out and make a nice drift the little buggers run around in schools and are kinda like perch at times,,,delay it when hooked up and more will come to where you are, the secret goo is Mackerl in tomato sauce and flour..no bs a world light tackle record holder turned me onto it over there...mix it in a gallon freezer bag until its a sticky goo that you can break off little pieces and roll up... stinks like hell wear gloves when mixing!!! #2 hooks a glob hiding the hook, there eye sight is excellent any thing showing and they will pass on it , drop it straight down in front of you on the rocks FISH ON!!.......ps.. cut off the pissed of eels when you hook one which will be often... have fun and take some pics we had a blast with walmart snoopy poles and cheap tackle,

peace, B.

If you are on the Big Island, you can fish lots of places. Near the marina north of Kona are some large rocks you can go out on. Right in Kona there are some rocks in Kailua Park (west of where they have the sight seeing boats and canoes) or near the Kailua Pier. Walk past the public beach and thru the trees out onto the point. Some guys fish right off the breakwater on Alii Drive, but you have to be there on the right tide to do any good.

On the south end of the island you can go down to near Punaluu and Pahala. There are a couple of resorts with golf courses and you can go out on the rocks near the beach. Gets kind of windy, but you can do ok fishing.

Check with one of the guys at Wal-Mart in Kona and they can get you going in the right direction. They were nice to me last time I was there.

I didn't fish Hilo side. It was always raining from the Volcano and north.

Merg, no stress buddy. Call Coach Duff at 808-292-9680. Ask for Terry, tell him Mingo sent you. He's the defensive backfield coach for the UH Warriors and totally knows his [censored] around there. He guides on Oahu. He'll hook you up. Terry married an island girl but he's from Puget Sound, a rocking steelheader and he'll put you into bonefish and trevally that'll tear those arms loose. He just put another bud of mine into bones that weighed over 10 pounds. A 10 pound bone would yank a 10 pound steelhead around by it's nutsack until it drowned.

Call him Merg.............you can flyfish, correct? good luck. \:\)

Hey Mingo,
How did you like Turtle Bay?? I really like it been there a couple times.
Its nice to get away from all the tourist traps by going to the north shore.
