Anyone go out for tuna? I'm headed out this coming weekend and wanted to know if the action had picked up again.

Went out sat. Aug. 30. Took a charter out of Newport. Bar was closed to small craft. Water was BAD!!!!!! I dont think we made it out any further than 25 miles. Started fishing about 8:00am. There was a decent bite that lasted till about noon and then it turned dead cold. not a single bite the rest of the day, except for a seagull. This was my first trip. I was expecting a lot more fish. Still had a great time. We caught 6 average size fish for our 3 man group. The boat did 16 fish for 12 rods. The other boat at the dock did exactly the same. I cant wait to try it on my own. This year may be out but you can bet I will be geared up and ready next year. Now if I could only find a crew.

Westport boats WHACKED 'em on Tuesday... 15-25 around! Had the sashimi for dinner to prove it!

I just got back from Westport last night, when I came in from salmon fishing on tuesday, 3 sport boats were taking pic's of tuna they caught 28 miles out....Damn, if I didn't need to put some salmon in the freezer I would have gone. Caution, check the weather, I think its supposed to blow up this weekend.

I'm calling the charter tonight to see if they are still going. I've been out in worse on this boat and others, so I'll go if the boat goes. Glad to see some are catching fish. Hope the low pressure doesn't shut down the bite.

Had a pretty good trip. Fishing was tough. Our boat had 10 anglers and we got a total of 84 fish split 10 ways. One angler was down for the majority of the trip with motion sickness. I managed to catch 19 or 20 fish if you count the 3 pulled in with the boat poles. I only lost two hookups and I think they were sharks because they were off just after I felt weight on the line. Fun trip. I'll be going back next year.
