I know a lot of you have kids that fish with you. What rod do you recommend for them to fish with from a bank? I haven't used a spinning reel in decades besides my trout ultra light. Trying to find something for my 7,8, and 9 yo's to fish with next to me drift fishing, and tossing spinners and spoons. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

It depends on how capable the kids are handling a spinning rod. I suggest a 7' spinning rod might be a good starting point.

I'm pretty sure you'll be doing terminal gear replacement on a regular basis so you might want to think about setting up a plunking rig so you can help the kids if you even try to fish at all. A float and jig set-up for them might be easier for them and less expensive for you.

Life jackets should also be considered. No wading would also be a good rule.

It's about taking kids fishing and having fun with them. I hope they get a chance to hook and land something.

My son is 13 now, but he has been fishing a 1025 spinning outfit since he was about 6 or 7, he has only broke one in all those years and handles it real well. The only question that has came up was out on the skok when he asked me why his rod did not make that whipping sound like all the other guys out there.

I told him they were crackers and cracker rods sounded like that.

Berkley Buzz Ramsey specials, 9.5' rated 8-12. Okuma 30 series reels. That's what my boys use. $60-70 for the rod, so if tey break them, no big deal. The length makes it easy for them to toss spinners, spoons and other gear pretty easy.
