Any fish on the Wynoochee today

Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/14/09 11:47 PM

I saw a few boats going by today and heared a jet working most of the day. Did anyone boat any fish? I tried from the bank but it seemed a little fast for me. I tied up some big bright drift setups tonight, maybe they'll see my bait tomorrow...Dan out.

Floated from Black Creek to twin bridges. No luck. Water was pretty fast still. The fun part was taking out. Lots of soft sand & silt. Thought it was going to be a tow job. Not a fun finish for such a nice day.

At 6.5 feet and running around 3000 cfs.........I'd say to high and to much flow.....that coupled with a "east wind".....keeps me home.

Guess I'll have to get my plunking gear out........5 - 8 oz of lead, 2 spin glows, squirt some shrimp oil on the spin glows.......whip that baby out, slap the rod in a pole holder..........hang a bell.....and then the waiting game begins.......

About weekend should be awesome........10 jet guide boats, 25 guided drift boats, another 50 driftboats, and 30 smaller jet boats....should be able to walk from boat to boat....7400 line to tide water.....just nothing like the noochee in January to March....

I usually just go down to the river mid week, and often in the last hour or so of daylight. I like the peacfulness of it all. Now and then one of those fish wrecks it all for me though. Oh! the chest pains. If the weekend gets that busy I should set up a coffee stand or something. Might make a few bucks for bait. Good luck everyone. Dan out.

How was the color? Brown or green? My fear from the flood was that the lake would turn over and the outflow would remain mud for a month.

Anybody know if the matlock cut off is open all the way through?

Re: Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/15/09 01:46 PM

The river isnt muddy. not quite green last night but probably about there today. Im a hermit. Not like a hermit, a real hermit. I go to the grocery store the hardware store and that little corner of the river where my dog and I go to let our minds take a sh*t. Almost all the folks floating by are freindly and considerate. Some dont say much. I think they are too cold or wet to talk. The only problem Ive ever had with the jet boat guys is that they dont often smile and wave as they shoot thru. I suppose I get mad if they just did loops in front of me. Last year I drove by the Puyallup river going to my hometown Duvall, and saw people fishing shoulder to shoulder from the bank. For all the pressure on the Nooch in Jan. and Feb. at least its not like the puyallup. I keep hearing about eddycut (dont know how to spell it) going out of style. Perhaps city folks cant leave the push and shove world behind when they come out here for their version of peace and quiet. I feel for them. For every person who floats by me I always hope they'll catch one right in front of me. (I like to watch). Most have paid a pretty good price to be there. Like I said, Im a hermit and dont like being around people much but I always like to see fellow fishermen enjoying what I also enjoy so much. Good luck everyone and dont forget to wave as you go bye. Dan out. ......... PS. Watch out for Grandmah, She doesnt feel the way I do.....out again.

Re: Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/15/09 02:08 PM

Was up there yesterday myself,
The upper will fish tomorrow, all small streams flowing in are clear so it should be getting better by the day. I do have some openings availible next week if anyone wants to go.
The road over to 101 from the dam is still way deep in snow and closed.

Peace

Ahhhh, it's all good. Every newspaper/magazine in western Washington sings the praises of the nooch between Jan-Mar. Someone's got to tell all those dudes where they can expect a quality experience with limits likely.

They can have it. Leave me the rest of the state! wink

Re: Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/15/09 08:57 PM

Grandma is still at home but she's in pretty bad health. They took away her guns. She is of a generation past when this was the top dairy valley in Wash. State. Hard working and stuburn. A real pioneer woman. She's always been a good neighbor but Id hate to be on her bad side. I dont know if any of us would like all that noise going back and forth just 100 feet or so from our front door. Think about it. Saw a lot of boats on the river this morning. Everyone was friendly, even the two guys who drove their boat to shore right where I was standing and fished the exact same spot as I was casting into. Just another example of the"dumbing down" of America I guess. Sun felt so good, everyone seemed giddy. It was a good day.....Dan out.

Does anyone know if the log jam below Black creek cleared out with the high water we just had?

BTW this is my first post here.

Re: Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/16/09 05:05 PM

Just got home.......took boat and "fished" for a while......water is good plunking water......but there were 4 or 5 "guide boat", trying to convince their clients that it was good "fishable water".....not!!!!

Here's my take on the "log jam".....I backed down toward the east side, motor tilted up, and still hit bottom of the pump. As the water drops, this will get to be a "VERY INTERESTING" place. There is "some new stuff", that got shoved in with the old.......bottom line......it didn't get blown out, slide hole, as most of us remember it, is "gone".

There will be some "tight butt cheeks" for those trying to run down....be safe out there!!!!!

Re: Any fish on the Wynoochee today - 01/17/09 03:39 AM

I gave up fishin to become a weekened warrior who builds houses. Since there are no fish, you all need to come over and help me this weekend. I'll leave instructions on what to do Sunday, as I'll be out fishing somewhere, but it won't be the Nooch.

Couldn't believe all the trees and crap floating downriver tonight as I headed home.

Dogfish:

Did see "your project", when the road to Olympia was closed....will be so nice when its done......I'm sure the house will be nice.....but I like the "big garage".....wtg......so many build that part too small, then wish they hadn't.

May have past by you today, don't know for sure. Got one below you? Another one also by another boat. The upper float was slow for us. On ave. 1 or 2 per boat. Was expecting less water and better fishn. Those that did better were in bonus. I like less water.

Didn't look like there was much happening today but I did release a nice native. I haven't fished the nooch much in the winter, what's the percentage of natives to hatchery fish this time of year?

satsop wasn't a whole lot more open than the nooch today...didn't take a count but still easy to tell it qualified as "a bunch"..my boat is staying home this weekend(monday off)...you'll find me a pie(on foot) on a small chehalis trib inaccessible to even the smallest of floating craft

How about a drift boat show around the west side?

Looks tight down below the bridge. Water has gone way down. How about a drift boat show around the west side?
