Anyone Know much about lavro drift boats ? - 03/04/09 07:51 PM

Before i get started i have wrote lavro an email, and may have to give them a call. But thought i would try for an answer here. I have a 1980 16-R Lavro db and it only has one drain hole on the right hand side just behind the front bench seat. This makes it kind of a pain to drain when i do happen to get water in the boat. Any how, it looks as though lavro may have made a spot in the right rear to have another drain hole drilled as it has been built up with fiberglass. But i am not sure. nor do i want to start punching holes in my boat. take a look. and give me your opinion.
thanks

Punching a new hole will not hurt your boat. I wouldnt punch it through the raised portion but next to it. Just be sure to reglass or epoxy the exposed plywood after you drill. My advice would be to wait until we recieve some warmer weather unless you can get it into a heated space for proper curing temperature.

Use a piece of plywood and glass over it and punch a hole through it and you will be fine. Make sure you sand the area first to get a good surface to do the wet lay-up and make sure it is real dry.
You will want to put a hair dryer on the area for a few days to help dry it out all the way, not to hot to touch, just warm enough that it feels almost hot but you can keep your hand on the area.

Ahhhh I'd wait to hear from Ron before I'd start drilling holes. I have heard of similar Lavro's with drains in the back but mine and most of the guys I know with the same boat have rear compartments which is why the drain is on the side. I'd just park the boat with the left tire on a block and call it good. Give Ron a call at 1-888-337-2980 and he'll set you straight if he is in town.

Good luck

I'd drill it and then seal it and finally plug it.Good luck,

The very back part of the boat is out of the water 95% of the time.why worry about it.

I have glass boat. Not a Lavro but should be similar.
there should be no plywood in the bottom of your boat. I wanted to
put a plug in the back also. I went to the marine store and got a brass fitting that had a screw in drain plug(brass also). I drilled the holes, then used marine tex.
