Backyard Wildlife - 06/15/10 10:24 PM
I've been feeding these guys for a long time, so finally grabbed my camera with a 200-400 MM zoom to take a snap while enjoying an evening libation in the backyard. With a digital Nikon dSLR the lens was effectively 600MM at F5.6 at 1250th of a second at ISO 800.
Just thought I'd share.

They are cute, all right. There are quite a number of birds around here as well, but I quit feeding them year round as it creates a rodent problem around here. I still toss out feed in the Winter when the ground is frozen or covered with snow, but they are on their own for most of the year.

We enjoy seeing the birds so much that we do feed year around, but it is true that rodents can become a problem.
Our aging black cat still enjoys the chase and resolves the rodent problem pretty well.
We do have some long bushy tailed tree rats that I'd prefer not to have visit.

What's the deal with all the bandtails? I've got about a half dozen that won't leave our feeders alone. Isn't it early for them?
