Westport report - 08/22/10 06:19 PM

Spent a day chasing chinook out of Westport. Had Dogfish and Auelox as crew. Followed a heading of about 240, hit the 250' mark and turned left. Went 9 for 11, releasing 4 shakers. Didn't touch a coho, although we fished a diver shallow all day. Radio chatter had some coho being caught, however.

Two nice fish at 21 and 18 pounds, the other three around 9-ish. Two big fish on whole herring, others on hootchies and Ace Hi.

My pleasure. Glad you got into such a nice fish, and you handled it perfectly for your first.

It was great having both aboard. Makes skippering a boat way easy when the crew really knows how to fish.

3 Cheers to that!
One of the best parts about this board is hooking up with people you don't have to babysit on the water!

I need to get sea sick just once so I can get a big fish like that. wink Looks like chumming works for kings.

Traci handled the fish very well, and it took a number of good hard deep runs. Classic king fight all the way.

LOL, Andy!
I don't want to experience sea sickness ever... painful enough watching others go thru it...
I'll just catch smaller kings for not chumming. grin

I've learned that there are two kinds of pukers: one gets seasick, curls up in the fetal position, and then beomes nothing more than another catch record to tag fish. Of course you can always move them around as ballast to help trim the boat. wink

The other gets sick, purges, and carrys on with the day like nothing happened. That's how Traci handled herself. Very discreet, very tidy, never gets it on the boat, and once she's done, she gets right back to fishing. Class act all the way.
