Coho/Silver catching lures

Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/14/10 05:57 PM

The following picture is a small inventory of "stuff" that is used by me to "chase and try to catch" Silvers in Region 6....every lure, spoon, twitching jig, spoons and spinners has caught fish, at one time or the other for me........newest weapons are the twitching jigs, while I missed the 2009 September - late November fishery, I did get to fish the December 2009, Silvers/Coho in Region 6........if i told you how many fish I caught during that "cold spell" and before the river blew out, you'd think I was "b.s'ing". Pink plugs got a few but the twitching jigs got "lot's"
[img:left][/img]

Hope this helps some of you with a general picture of things that will work......now just have to "get the rivers open" and the rains not be "gully washers".

Good luck...stay safe....and hope the fish god's are happy!!!!

Sorry the picture, wasn't bigger but???????

Re: Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/14/10 06:43 PM

That stuff looks familiar. I pretty much have the exact same arsenal laying on my fishing counter in my garage right now. I can't wait until Thursday even though I expect it to start out slow.

So lets take this thread to the next level. Lets see how many different pictures of coho with different lures in their mouths people can post.

I'll start with a couple.

Dr Death (old style mag wart).

Hoooochie on a Vibrax

Jig (Pink head/purple body).

Spoons work!

Sometimes Plugs work so well you have to learn how to net doubles at the same time..in this case a red firetiger and a bronze fire tiger plugs:

Ok, note to self..... Take glory shots with lure still in the jaw so I can contribute to this thread. All of my silver shots are just before release or after the wood shampoo.

Re: Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/14/10 11:03 PM

Man, Abu, you shoot more pictures in a day than I do in a year. I just realized I've only taken, actually a fishing partner took it, one picture of a coho with the lure - or Wog it was - in its mouth in my entire life. Probably cuz it was the first caught on one. Didn't take any other coho pictures the rest of the trip. Or trips since.

This thread oughtta be proof that a coho is an awfully gullible critter. They'll hit just about ANYTHING that moves.

That's officially called a Martin's Nightmare.

Martin's Thin Twin, (Twitch) Martin's amputee hangback Baitfish Emulator skirt, Goldstar Needlefish hootchie.

You should see how the vortex created by the Thin Twin activates the tentacular action on the other components..... MONEY!

Not just for silvers but for chinook as well....

Re: Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/16/10 01:32 AM

Will silvers bite anything?

They'll bite spinners.

They'll bite big bright hoochie spinners.

They even eat homemade spinners.

I know you can catch them on spoons.

As Ryley said, sometimes they bite so much you have to net two at once.

Hell, I even heard they would eat a pink worm.

Give me one bait though, and I'll fish eggs for silvers every time.

The thing I like about Lamiglas rods is that once you hook a fish, one rod magically becomes 2!

I keed, I keed.

Putzalong,

This may seem like a dumb question to most, but since I do not know the answer I will ask it anyways.

How did you get the swivel onto that DickNite? Is it a split ring on the DickNite?

Thanks!

The #2 DickNite comes w/ a swivel attached to the welded ring...

Re: Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/16/10 08:41 PM

Threw a corkie and egg combo at "upper wall" once and got slightly hung so when I cranked my now modified corkie and hook combo in full speed, WHAM!!! Ten feet behing the outboard came an 8lb bright hooknose! Only thing I caught all day. Go figure. Ya never know what they'll eat! Throw the whole box at em' I say.

Re: Coho/Silver catching lures - 09/17/10 06:07 PM

My coho pictures all suck. So much, in fact, that I quit taking them.

Glad to see that many others have better shots. There's some great ones in here.

This should serve as the reminder I have been needing that coho are extremely stupid, and when you're not catching them, it's probably because they are too stupid to even strike at a lure that day.
