Ande Ghost Line - 11/25/11 05:56 PM

Just got my shipment of line all the way from Florida. I looked all over here in Wash, but nobody carried that new line. It should work well and will keep everyone posted on the results

No big deal, I just like Ande line and finding a line that is less visable with better knot strengh and cost alot less than florocarbon appeals to me!!! What isn't tried won't work. Let me clear up what I stated earlier, I'm not saying it's less visable than florocarbon, but less visable than traditional mono. It for sure is less expensive and will have better knot strengh than florocarbon in my opinion. Time will tell, but I think it should satisfy MY line needs

Florocarbon has the same light refraction qualities as water so it appears invisible to fish. It's more brittle than mono, and has zero stretch. But it also has a smaller diameter, so you can use bigger pound test than you would normally use in a mono. I used 14# test floro leader this last summer for those skittish steelhead . I believe it has the same diameter as 6# mono, but stronger. But I had about as much success just using 8# Ultragreen for steelhead when it was low and clear.

Just how important is visibility regarding the fish's ability to see the line and/or stay away because they can see the line? I see guys fishing jigs with a 12 inch leader with as many as 3 large split shot attached to the leader and they catch a lot of fish. I've always been more concerned with the presentation of the bait/fly/lure regarding leader. Especially fly fishing. There is an old Jim Teeny video I believe was called "Breaking Tradition". In that video he uses 10 or 12 pound test with a knot tied a few inches up from the fly with a huge split shot above that. The knot is used to keep the fly from slipping down. He slays the summer run steelhead in low clear water. When the camera shows the fly under water the line looks like rope! But, he catches fish!
I like Maxima Ultra Green. It's soft and you can pull a truck with 10 pound test.

if i've had great success using 8lb ug, the only thing i'd change is the rating. say 6lb.

i've seen waaaaaaay to many instances of summer steelhead not being line shy. to be super concernd abot stealth lines.

just my 2cents.

+1 on the Ultra Green 8#...........

but that said I tried the new line from Stren "Super Knot", Cabelas had it for a "introduction price" of $4.99 for 250 yards......I used it all last summer.........never any problems.

Florocarbon.........grrrrrrrrrr to that stuff.....5 or 6 of us fish every morning in the summer time........all have sworn off ever using florocarbon again.......just to many failures....lost fish, lost jigs, and lost fishing time..........fish and jigs, no big deal........time is the thing there is never enough of.....
