Bantam 100 EX? - 12/13/12 01:52 PM

Found an old bantam 100 EX that a friend had. Can anyone give me some info on this particular reel? I know the old 200 and 201's are popular just wondering how they compare. Thanks guys.

I don't smoke crack actually. What gave you that idea? Pretty funny and original though.

I have a snealing suspicion you wouldn't call me a crack head to my face. And if you did muster up the balls you wouldn't like the outcome. Merry xmas!!

Just an odd post.

The reel is a good one, older but well made.

I have one and used it for years. I caught a lot of fish with that thing. Now it's displayed as an art piece. With all of the new technology I kept moving up to what was supposed to be new and better. But you called it the quality is remarkable.

I've had a few of those, think the "EX" stands for executive. Functionality about the same as a bantam 100. They look cool thouth. Caught lots of steelies on them.

I ended up getting it. Seems to be in great condition. I have always wanted a good old reel to fish. Think it'll be fun. Why would you put me on an ignore list? For making a joke on piscatorial pursuits? Yeah, this site id pretty serious. I said merry christmas twice for christ sake!! Whatever, thnx for those who can take a joke even though it wasn't funny, and offer some help. Appreciate it. Merry xmas!

The Bantam 100 EX is one of the most collectible reels out of the Shimano Bantam line. It was in the Shimano catalog from 1978 till 1981 and with the blue anodizing and the stamped gold scroll work it was a beautiful reel. I have seen them with the box in good condition and all the paper work go for 500.00 to 600.00 dollars on e-bay.

Those are thee reels to have, especially with a hot steelhead on the end of the line.

Heck i'd fish that sucker, be a shame to stick it into a crown royal bag & forget about it.

A burned up pinion gear is the death knell for the old Bantams.
If you want to save your pinion gear, roll back the spool slightly before hitting the (disengage) button. Akin to depressing a clutch pedal.
It's a two-handed move that you can adapt to.

Hitting the button while hanging weight takes a little chip off the pinion each time.
I burned up the pinion in my first Bantam in about 3 months due to "stupid thumb".
Been practicing safe pinion ever since.

The one I got was on Ebay, I lied about it being a friend. My bad, just seemed like a great deal. Looked just as nice as the $400 one and paid $75. I did notice parts, side plates and stuff like that. I have my share of reels so if it goes out on me I'll still be fishing. Just think it would be cool to fish a real from around the time I was born. From what I've heard Ollie Damon's can fix them. Probably not original parts, but I just thought it would be cool to have one. Maybe it's all the hype. I dunno.

Not really.
If the critical parts are no longer available (like a pinion) they can't fabricate them.

Anyone looking for parts on the Shimano 100 ex, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 send me an email. I have most if not all the parts, and many of them in factory sealed bags, including the face plate with the part that seems to break off easily. oldstuf50@yahoo.ca

Thanks

My Bantam 100 is used on my pack-rod. And have caught a number of Kenia sockeye using it. Good little reel.
