Does anyone have a estimated weight conversion or formula from inches to pounds for salmon that doesn't include measuring girth?

Doesn't have to be perfect just close.

L x L x L x 0.36 / 740.

This assumes typical 3 x 5 proportions, where L = fork length.

Pretty sure there is a calculator for salmon on this site. There is one for steelhead.

EF, i tried that, and a fish i remember weight from came up 5 pounds heavier... nearly exactly double the weight...

where did that equation come from if i can ask?

At 3 x 5 proportions, G = 0.6 L.

My fNp salmon formula is L x G x G / 740

By straight algebraic substitution,

L x 0.6 L x 0.6 L / 740 = L x L x L (0.36) / 740

It's money.... ask me how I know.

second run shows 2 pounds heavier, much closer... i was cross ref'n it with the PP calculator and your equation... (different sized fish)

is that for Salmon, or Trout? because the first fish was a rainbow, second was my largest Coho...

For steelhead I use the formula first 25 inches = 5 pounds + 1 pound for every inch longer. It gets you really close.

So figure a 39 inch steelhead = 5 pounds plus 14 pounds =@ 19 pound fish

39-25=14+5=19 lbs

Was kind of hoping for a similar formula for salmon . A simple mental math one could do without use of a calculator and of course being any true fisherman if it came out heavier then actual weight then well........... wink
