Keep getting booted off each visit? - 01/12/14 02:15 PM

Just started having to log on each visit here lately. Was an issue a few months ago then started remembering me,but started logging me off again.

What I did?

After logging in are you checking the " remember me on each visit" box just below where you type your user name and password?

If you have automatic update turned on you may have had a MS update since then.
Updates can sometimes screw with settings or worse.

I'm thinking that your Cookie Manager got altered from an update.

Here's the navigation for IE 10...

A cookie manager is just that...you can disallow cookies, allow cookies or just allow cookies for specific sites.
If you're not allowing cookies, your "remember me on each visit" command won't work.

Mine was a bit different than that but didn't show anything about cookies??

I am having the same problem, this site especially. I have to log in each time no matter if I click remember me or not.

On several other fishing sites I visit I stay logged on for a few times then I get booted off and have to log in. I used to be able to click the remember me and would never get booted.

If you sign in and click the "remember me", it puts a cookie on your computer. The next time you come back to PP, it checks to see if the cookie is there. If it is there, you don't have to sign in again. If it is gone, you do.

So, something or someone is deleting your cookies. A lot of browsers are now set to "delete cookies upon exit". Find and change that setting.

dump IE for google chrome or Firefox...

I had a similar problem, but then loaded Google Chrome in order to register for AutoDesk University (IE gave me an error) all problems went away

Found in that gear deal that says block all third party cookies. Should I have it on or off? If that's what I'm looking for.

I found this dude from India to show you how to manage cookies.
This covers 3 of the most popular web browsers.
I believe you are using Internet Explorer 10 (other IE versions are similar)

LOOK AT THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF HIS SCREEN AND WATCH FOR INTERNET EXPLORER TO APPEAR....THEN WATCH CLOSELY AND NOTE THE NAVIGATION THAT HE DEMONSTRATES
(remember he is showing 3 different browsers, watch for yours)

You should see the navigation that I posted earlier.

IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER IS THE BUTTON FOR FULL SCREEN
It's a "radio button" not a real button.
Hit it to go Full Screen for better viewing.
Hit your "ESC" key on your keyboard (upper left) to go back to small screen.

I'd hire this man in a second! Best advice I've seen yet - right next to mine, which is:

Get a Mac.

Problem solved.

Re: Keep getting booted off each visit? - 01/14/14 03:02 PM

That 3rd party cookies wasn't it and I still have to log on several times to get on here.

I have Windows 8 and it says 11.0.2 . Getting old ain't fun.

I started using Google Chrome about 2 years ago when IE and PP weren't getting along.....no issues since.

Many times its "small things" that cause computers to stop working. I've bought my last 3, 2 lap tops and a desktop, from Costco.

What I like about buying at Costco......price is good BUT they add a year to the warranty AND they have a 24/7 phone service that has saved my butt more than once, the phone service is free.

They're like a horse, once they know that you know how to ride, they start paying attention.
That "button pushing" ceremony must have done the trick.

After trying to get logged in 10 tries I finally got here so, in closing, the MF'er is not working.

I gotta get the button man over here again.

Re: Keep getting booted off each visit? - 01/15/14 09:56 PM

When you're adjusting your settings in one of those dialog boxes (thingies), always "Apply" and "OK" your way out before closing the box or the settings won't stick.

Some nerd that wrote the code wanted to make sure that you really, really wanted to make those changes.

Stop using Internet Exploder.

Go to http://www.chrome.com

Download the latest version of Chrome and use that instead of Exploder.

Or, for those in the Mozilla Camp, go to http://www.mozilla.org and download the latest version of Firefox.

Even better - download and use both. Either one is going to be a bazillion times better than Exploder.

And get a Mac. wink

Paker, I'll get a Mac as soon as I get a left handed crank level wind.

Also, I have found out that I don't load things without my buddy that know this sh!t. I am hating buttons right now.

I wonder how I ever made a living fishing without a computer in the 80's, 90's and a bit in 00.
