Report: 8/25-8/28 Foul Weather Bluff to HCB - 08/29/14 02:04 PM

This is a report from Monday 8/25 to Thursday 8/28. Fished hard for 4 days this week from Salisbury Point to Foul Weather Bluff and into Skunk Bay and everywhere in between. Typical setup: plug herring/hootchies/coho killers behind a flasher fished anywhere from 15 to 100 feet. Marked tons of bait, but couldn't produce a single fish in 30+ hours of fishing. When pulling the boat out yesterday afternoon, 5 other boats had the same luck. Hoping this shot of rain in the forecast will bring in some more fish.

Maybe the fish are schooling in shallow water. I've seen Silvers do that at Picnic Point. There will be a bunch of fish in close particularly early in the run.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a bad time to try the lower Snohomish river system. I remember last year's Edmonds Coho Derby, the second or third place fish came from the Snohomish river system by a bank angler (If my memory serves me correctly). Then again, that was last year and this year has been a little squirrely.

I haven't seen anything in the Snohomish yet. except a few wrong year humpies... but I have not put a line in to check, just watched for jumpers.

The beach in MA9 was very slow today. I caught the first fish today at 0745 which is unusual. The first bite has been starting at 0545 or so.. a few more fish were caught about 2 hours after mine.. then nothing just flat dead.. I haven't seen it that slow in the last month and I have hit the same beach everyday for a month.. maybe warm water and lack of rain?

theres got to be fish in the snoho. I got my three today on a river further south and quite a few others did well too.

You are thinking of the Everett Derby. Edmonds derby is saltwater only.

I see that you're from Silverdale and fishing in MA9 so I assume you're at Salisbury. If that's the case then you're one of the lucky ones. I own a cabin right next to Salisbury and targeted the troll in front of the launch and down towards the red barn on Foul Weather Bluff outside Port Gamble. I'd like to give a glowing report if I had one but the truth of the matter was that I didn't touch a fish all week

I stand corrected. 51 have made it up to sunset falls.... I didn't see any in the Snohomish... but they must have been there. I don't know when I will be back by before the weekend but I'll look again if I get a chance.

Yes Salisbury. . I have seen a ton of boats out trolling but havent seen them haul anything up. Honestly, I have been out there every morning for the last 4 weeks (minus a couple days for sleep catch up) and I have seen many fish daily pulled out from the beach there. I have hooked up almost daily mooching herring with a special brine and setup. Most fish are in the 5-6lb range but I have seen some 8-10lbs hooked. I have pulled out multiple 5-6lbs, a couple 7lbs and my big hen of the year at 8. One guy I see there every morning hooked a monster of a coho. When she jumped everyone there was in awe. Swore it was 12-15lbs. He got hen-handled by her tho and she about spooled him. We will never know how big she really was but ask anyone there and they will confirm..

I've got a dozen or so family members in town for a reunion.
Since Salsbury is fishing hot, I think we'll load up the van with rotators and buzz bombs and hit it hard this week.
Hope to see everyone out there.

Thanks!
We might hit another beach on the way home that I read about on the Internet that is fishing hot right now.
Another 10-12 people fishing it shouldn't crowd it up much.

he's a bit green stonefish, don't think he gets your point...

Unfortunately, it has gotten more and more to be the case that folks have to learn the hard way. Instead of having a fishing buddy or mentor that brings someone along and teaches them the right way to go about these things. People are now culling the widely shared info and then offering it in a likewise manner. Then they complain about how much more crowded their favorite spot is than it used to be...

Only one fix: If you have kids, teach them the right way. If you don't, mentor someone who needs guidance. this is part of being a complete angler - in my opinion.

Salisbury is now a secret????? How about PNP or Wilson. Terrible when someone lets out the secret spot. Better not mention the skok or the cow. They could be covered in people if someone lets the secret out.

Re: Report: 8/25-8/28 Foul Weather Bluff to HCB - 09/04/14 12:27 PM

Doc
The beaches you mentioned are far from a secret. That being said, there is only so much real estate to fish from on most beaches.
It is a bit different story if you have access to a boat.

I personally don't name beaches regardless of how well known they are.
That is out of respect for the locals and old timers that have fished there long before myself and helped teach me the beach game.
Simply naming the MA area you are fishing rather then specific beaches certainly helps eliminate crowding.
If you like crowds, keep naming beaches. Just don't bitch when your favorite beach get overly crowded.

docspud,
as a fisherman I'm sure you understand that fishing is not just spatial, but spatio-temporal, so it's not just that ' the fishing is great at salisbury' but 'the fishing is great at salisbury NOW'.

Not to mention that even a busy fishery can get more crowded.

Wow.. yall blew this out of proportion.. your cynical sarcasm is what surprises me the most. I thought you were asking a serious question and I gave a truthful answer. Everyone here has helped me each time I was curious about something and I thought I was paying it forward. Next time I will keep my mouth shut and keep my info to myself

No CJ - you're fine. It's one thing to gain direct person to person help and another by throwing out guesses on the internet hoping for some hot spots, regardless if they are well known or not. Grab a rod and find out yourself or PM a fella and ask politely for more info. You may or may not get said info, but that's the breaks. Don't ask when its an all eyes broadcast. Pretty simple.
