guys trashing schafer state park

Arnold the park ranger at schafer state park on the satsop river has informed me that fisherman have been leaving human waste at the boat launch area just up river from the bridge at the park.

Idiots need to have some respect for the park, the launch, and the river they fish.

This is a public health risk, and it will end with the launch being closed. Aswell Arnold will be putting up cameras and citations will be handed out to those caught trashing the park.

Right now only a few guys are using the launch. So it's pretty obvious who is the problem. The same trucks have been parked their with trailers attached over the last few trips I've mmade to the park fishing. I will be taking down license plate numbers of every truck/trailer combo I see parked by the launch and forwarding them to Arnold on days he is not around.

For those who don't believe this will affect access....the skokomish river comes to mind a few years ago.

A parked truck doesn't prove anything. There are lots of tweakers in that area, as well as all of the idiots that fish at the Decker confluence and leave all kinds of beer bottles and garbage everywhere.

Let's see. Guys start using the boat launch...people start shitting at the boat launch which is left during the time frame the truck/trailers are parked feet from the launch, and none of this was a problem until the guys started using the launch.

Kind of a coincidence that is very hard to argue.

But it doesn't surprise me that someone would make a comment against the problem.

This was not an issue before the launch started getting used by fisherman.
Tweakers are not an issue at schafer state park...besides the fisherman who happen to be tweakers themselves....

Not familiar with that location but why would anyone take a dump on the ground if there is a $hitter nearby... maybe it's dirty or locked? Very odd!

Really?? Oh it must be a different group of people vandalising the restrooms, roaming throughout the park aimlessly like zombies and leaving syringes behind. Not to mention how it tends to be a meeting area for drug dealing.

This is something I have heard many times.
But in 4 winters of fish at the park 3 to 5 days a week during salmon/steelhead seasons (I don't work in winter and it's just a few miles from home) I have never once seen this type of activity.
And Arnold who I have quite a few conversation with has never once mentioned any problems with tweakers.

Cameras are going to be put in and they will tell the story.

A perplexing mystery for sure. If you are looking for the real poopetrator I wouldn't focus on "tweakers." Syringes, yes. Piles of crap, no...a couple dribbles of foam at best.

Nobody ever claim vandalism was a problem. Just a park getting trashed at a boat launch area, that never was an issue until fisherman started using it a couple weeks back.
Proof in right there. A coincidence it is not.
But again it doesn't surprise me to see some people take it as a joke and try to side track something that is a serious issue for our access to the river.

Arnold already placed a big log across the spot to slow down the launching of boats....hell only a few guys knew about the access available now and it has already been taken away. Smh.

For the record, I didn't say that the tweakers were the poopers. I just simply stated that I didn't agree with bank bum saying tweakers were not a problem at Schaefer, an unrelated topic to the poo situation. As far as the culprits to the fudge, I agree 100% it was probably the people using the access.

It may be time for the WDFW to issue a "how to [Bleeeeep!] in the wood" printed instruction on the back of the fishing licenses.


as a side note, I was just at the WDFW launch on kitsap lake today with my son, and in the 3 hours we were on the lake a couple of rice burners were in the parking lot squirreling around... then, when we were loading the boat a bunch of kids came down and threw a bunch of empty bottles in the bushes... its not just the fishermen...

This is an excellent point. Many people visit state parks every day who are neither tweakers nor fishermen, and yes, some of whom are both. Some percentage of all walks of life are of the ilk that litter everywhere they go and can't understand why any sucker would pay to use a landfill when there are miles upon miles of access to perfectly good forests in which you can dump your garbage for free. Think those people are more likely to drop a deuce wherever they get the notion than most? If so, I think you're right. Think you can pinpoint the demographic from which a majority of such scumbags originate? If so, I think you're wrong.

Most likely (regrettably), it seems that a relatively high percentage of those people like to fish (or snag/floss fish, as the case may be for some). This explains why the Lower Skokomish has a reputation for being heavily littered and sometimes heavily turd-laiden. Also regrettably, the Skok doesn't always have snaggable numbers of fish, and that's when the public poopers head to other fisheries to conduct their $hitty shenanigans.

I'm not suggesting that the Satsop doesn't have its fair share of such people without any help from the Skok crowd - I just wanted to make the point that we've seen plenty of evidence, almost everywhere we fish, that "fishermen" don't always practice good stewardship. To bankbum's point, we need to clean up our act before we start losing more precious access to the sport/pastime/hobby we love.

I know from past coversations with Ranger Arnold that he would like to keep the access at the park open. If you think about it, launching at the park (as opposed to Decker) is a better deal for everyone - better, safer parking, much less frequent vehicle prowls, a dedicated ranger to police the area... heck, even a potential for increased Discover Pass revenues if you care about that sort of thing. Hopefully, the word will get back to whoever did this, and he will feel shame and decide to change his ways. In a world full of give and take, a $hit is something that should be given in public places more often than taken.

Because if it was after, the green truck guys did it since poop started appearing after the dogwoods started blooming last year and the green truck was there.
