Just a heads up... SOUTH MONTE RAMP

Just a heads up... SOUTH MONTE RAMP - 04/30/16 02:43 PM

Half way down to a 0.64 low tide, I was unable to put my boat in the water this afternoon.... without falling off the end of the ramp. Last few boards are horribly undermined/MIA.

Watch the tide book carefully and plan your launch/retrieval accordingly.

Wasn't that slated for repair this summer? Thought I'd read that somewhere.

Maybe they're planning on fixing it this fall when no one is fishing.

About right.........low tides, this summer would be the perfect time but knowing State, right in the middle of ANY fishing would be their time.

Should have been done, 25+ years ago..........

Good advise. I avoid low tide at the ramp. Easier to judge in the salt than the river.

Is this the project? (https://secure.rco.wa.gov/prism/search/ProjectSnapshot.aspx?ProjectNumber=14-1393)

If so, the plan has site work being accomplished June 2018.

Thanks for the link, LB. I can tell you that no physical activity has begun on improving this site.

Going to 2 ramps from 3 sounds like a downgrade to me... but maybe we won't notice as there will be fewer boats clogging up the ramp as our local salmon opportunities evaporate.

I saw some of that articulated concrete mat earlier today.... it's what they put in at the new Hoquiam River launch behind Swanson's. I was just talking to fp about it. Never seen it used on a boat ramp before. Looks better than just having the river bottom fall away abruptly from the last concrete board at the bottom of a traditional ramp, but time will tell.
