Net Pens - 05/24/16 07:46 AM

News this morning said they are looking for some a**hat who cut loops off a Chinook net pen in Mayfield Lake and released about 100,000 fall Chinook into the lake. The pen is located near Mayfield Dam.
Not sure what this will do to a future run but it can't be good.

The article in today's paper said they were part of 2,000,000 being reared there.

Might be a little early, but it's getting close to the normal time for hatchery fall Chinook to be released. I suppose the management plan calls for trucking the smolts around Mayfield to avoid reservoir losses, but smolt survival through the Mayfield downstream fishway is quite good. If they make it through the reservoir and past the pikeminnows, survival should be pretty good.
