Planned on heading out after work. Wanted to combine w/ a saturday hump float. Doesn't look like the float will happen. Clams might be questionable too.

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/12/16 07:08 AM

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say we won't be fishing the Hump (or anything else) for about 2 weeks once this gets going, if the forecast is even close to right.

Think I'll wait for the next opener to dig clams. Thanks for the heads up, thaxor.

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/12/16 09:41 AM

We're going to get hit with the remnants of a Pacific typhoon. Lots of rain and high winds. Hunker down and batten the hatches. Make sure you have extra water, flashlights/batteries, and propane.

The last time this happened was September 2013. The high water destroyed the Kalama River weir. So they built another for $2 million. Unless they pull it out in the next couple days, it will happen again.....

I can only hope!

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/12/16 06:17 PM

That one was nasty! And with the absence of modern technology warning was non-existent. Was sitting in the football stands watching Edmonds play Roosevelt when the winds started to pick up causing the new stadium cover to flex and the field lighting to sway. Etched in mind mind is Roosevelt's punter having to run backward to catch his own punt! Pretty wild!! Anyway, the game was suspended at halftime.

Coast report... LIVE.

NO substantial wind felt in Aberdonia to date. Calm before the storm?

I'm having my servers powered down after work tomorrow because Saturday is supposed to be the heart of the maelstrom.

I'm sure you'd be on here offering your opinion if they would have under-forecast and folks were killed on the beach too!

Typical

There's still time for you to head out there and test the rest of the forecast....please.

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/14/16 10:55 AM

I'm trying to figure out if I can cancel soccer games for tomorrow so I can head out there to shoot ducks.

NOAA is pretty benign compared to Cliff Mass, but Cliff hasn't updated yet today.

I also had KC letting us know of the flooding dangers as well as the mudslides, downed trees, and power line warning that may occur. So, like little idyocrocoides we ran home chopped fire wood, layed out power cables, got the backup generators ready to rock, and put the dogs inside, cuz it was possibly the worst ever storm a coming, again.

Six lousy leaves fell, the owl decoy still sits on the deck railing, and the creek didn''t rise. They did get everyone out buying groceries and the gas lines were jammed up last nite, but the wild weather as predicted up until 10:00 pm last night quietly slid on by. At 10:30 pm noaa backed off and moved the disaster warnings to Saturday, leaving last night's predictions nothing more than a fart in a spacesuit...

Being only half stupid, we will be leaving all our Friday night preparations in place through Sunday morning...
Saturday my friend----after Saturday we will see if were in the clear------

The latest from the National Weather Service (10/14/16):

STORM WARNING

TODAY
SW WINDS 35 TO 50 KT...BECOMING 35 TO 45 KT. SEAS 20 TO 26
FT. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND TSTMS.

When was the last time we saw 26-foot seas? And that's just the average wave height.

A tornado touched down in Manzantia, OR this morning. Lots of damage, but no reports of injuries.

Stay safe everyone!

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/15/16 11:21 AM

There was a clam window for locals last night as the weather completely laid down for an hour on either side of low water. Anyone who was there got a BIG bonus.... LOTSA clams and virtually no competition.

Now... dack to our scheduled stormy programming.

You'd have to friggin nuts to show up this afternoon.

Just got word that the stormwater took out the Nemah weir.... a third of it went downriver.

Nearby Willapa River is flowing at 32X historic median flow right now...

Re: friday clam dig noaa warning - 10/16/16 06:24 PM

Fridays dig was the calmest I've seen. Not a single breeze at the low tide. This storm was another media hype BS. Since I've lived here I have seen at least two stronger blows. Sounds like parts of orygun got slammed pretty good.

P.S Today was very doable too, just a little rain/sun/light breeze.
