Only fished it once this year earler with little Coho action. How are things going now? Are most the Coho hatchery clipped?

Its been decent. Troll coho killers at 3mph with 70-90 feet of cable out.

Ok, not great.
Should fish better as the month goes on.
From what I saw last weekend, I think MA 9 was just about to turn the corner before it closed.....so there is hope for MA 10.

Good early coho bite for us around the 10/9 line (Edmonds). Coho killers and hootchies both producing. 3mph. Somedays hatchery, somedays wild, all days quite a few shakers. Would advise checking your bait after 20 minutes if no action to confirm no shaker.

Thanks for the report. Fished the morning change. Wasn't hot but got coho. Wished I could have made it in time for dawn bite. Surprised at the number of boats for a Monday morning.

The coho fishing in MA 10 the past week was about as good as coho fishing gets in central sound! For example the combined checks for the5 day period 9/6 through 9/10 showed average of 0.88 coho/rod. An astounding 943 anglers were checked with 833 coho. Sunday was the poorest day of the five with 198 coho checked for 319 anglers.

With little fishing in front of the MA 10 it was not too surprising the coho fishing was very good early. The $64 question will be how well the fishing holds up. With more pressure (including tribal nets) expect catch rates to drop.

Equally good news was the size of the fish are better than the past couple years; more normal sized with most fish in that 5 to 7# with some smaller and larger fish in the mix.

Will be watching the fishery and escapements over the next couple months to see whether this excellent early fishery is a function of better than expected survival (fingers crossed) or more of an artifact of the overall reductions in fishing effort outside of MA 10.

I've been enjoying MA 10 for the past week with the worst day being one fish for two of us when we were only able to be out for a short time. Catches in MA 11 have been slow and I'm waiting to see if the coho move after the rain forecast for this weekend.

Like Curt, I am hoping this fishery means better than expected returns more than cutting out most fishing in area 9. Let's all hope for a good September!
