A note of caution from a Salmon Advisory Group member for participants:

Every year the rec's burn through a considerable amount of encounter quota by using fishing methods which tend to increase sublegal encounters. Without going into a long diatribe on this topic, I'd suggest using plugs or other methods to target larger fish and lessen your impact on the large number of sublegals present at this time. Charter captains that have been fishing in October report that their catch included a larger number of legal fish by using plugs, so this advice could obviously lead to personal success in the derby.

It's a derby. I'll be running the same gear I run for the big boys in the summer!

All of this weekends festivities will be inside the Bayside Marine dry stack. Salmon for Soldiers beer garden opens at 11. We'll have the Seahawks on the big screen, and will give away 100's of prizes.

29 boats w 19 fish is darn good fishing.

Been hearing there are fish, but there are shakers in some of the areas.

We may think 'outside the box' and fish elsewhere for the Derby opener.
