SRC 2018...better late than never!!! - 11/12/18 10:21 AM

Ok guys and Team Sky Valley Sucks,

It is time once again for the not so great smack talk thread that has been a time honored tradition associated with the Snoopy Rod Classic!

The SRC 2018 will be on Friday Dec. 7th on the Bogey from the hatchery to Wilson. We once again have the SRC house booked for some fun festivities on Thursday evening with the awards banquet Friday night at a location TBD.

As always the SRC Committee (Paker, Bob, and yours truly) sincerely appreciate all donations of either gear or $ for the Gordon Gracey Medical fund. Please let one of us know if you are able to make a donation and we will coordinate pick up.

If you are interested in attending(i.e. becoming a target) the SRC 2018 please get in contact with a committee member and bribe one of us to get that coveted invitation. Remember this is event is by invitation only(not really that hard to get) and teams of 2 or 3 are necessary. We would love to see at least 10 teams this year. The crowning of the team champion(total weight divided by number of people) and biggest fish will happen at the Friday night dinner with the winners receiving the SRC Trophy(+ drink bill...lol) and Green Jacket respectively!

I will update the team list here as commitments are made on this thread. Please list your team members and team name. Travel safe and I look forward to seeing you all Thursday night.

Last and certainly not least remember:

TEAM SKY VALLEY SUCKS!!!

Teams:

1. Suck It (Canyon Man, Suck It(Chad), Fish4Brains)

3. SKY VALLEY SUCKS(Beezer, CraigO, TomS)

Nope.

Team 2 Guides and a Boat Ho are keeping the trophy in Forks this year.

PS. No coho boots this year. Hatchery steelhead or bust.

Paker,

After the last few years you can definitely drop the "Boat" part from your team name...it is listed correctly above.

Team Sky Valley Sucks and so does everyone else not participating!

Totally agree CC but we are always looking for new targets....errrr....I mean participants. Get a hold of an SRC committee member if you would like to participate this year. Looks like there may even be some fish around!

Dead zones are hypoxic (low-oxygen) areas in the world's oceans and large lakes, caused by "excessive nutrient pollution from human activities coupled with other factors that deplete the oxygen required to support most marine life in bottom and near-bottom water. (NOAA)".[2] Historically, many of these sites were naturally occurring. However, in the 1970s, oceanographers began noting increased instances and expanses of dead zones. These occur near inhabited coastlines, where aquatic life is most concentrated. (The vast middle portions of the oceans, which naturally have little life, are not considered "dead zones".)

Dead zones are bodies of water that do not have sufficient oxygen (3) levels in order to support most marine life. Dead zones are caused by oxygen-depleting factors which include, but are not limited to, human pollution (4). This is a process called eutrophication, where oxygen levels decrease as elements such nitrogen and phosphorus increase. A healthy river will have increased amounts of oxygen for consumption by organisms (1). As nitrogen increases, algae (5) produce large amounts of oxygen, but die from increased nitrogen. Decomposers then use all of the remaining oxygen decomposing the algae, resulting in no oxygen left and no oxygen being produced (2).
In March 2004, when the recently established UN Environment Programme published its first Global Environment Outlook Year Book (GEO Year Book 2003), it reported 146 dead zones in the world's oceans where marine life could not be supported due to depleted oxygen levels. Some of these were as small as a square kilometre (0.4 mi²), but the largest dead zone covered 70,000 square kilometres (27,000 mi²). A 2008 study counted 405 dead zones worldwide.[3][4]

As a first time participating new target. . .what are the rules again?!?!?!

You know, max mag capacity, what caliber spud gun is legal,
level of armor required, how large of outboard is legal, helmet with full face shield or not. . .. .etc. . .

TARGET....errr, I mean, FishRanger,

Better talk to your veteran team mates about the rules. The committee would hate to have to disqualify you for breaking the rules. Actually don't worry, if you catch a BIG one we will make up a rule for disqualification...roflmao!

Sounds like team Elwha Valley is rejoining team Sky Valley kicks ass. I’ll just leave the green jacket in my truck since it won’t be changing hands. Actually now that I think about it, who can I pawn that nasty thing off on?

The 2018 Snoopy Rod Classic Wrap UP and Post Event Post

First big change this year was that we decided to donate the proceeds from this year's event to the Sarge's Place in Forks. Sage's Place is an emergency shelter for homeless veterans in Forks.

We also decided to continue to donate to Sarge's Place next year, so for any of you that are in favor of this, support your veterans and the local Forks community, plan on attending in 2019 or making a donation.

Was a rather small gathering this year. I think we had 6 boats....maybe 6 and around a dozen or so participants. A lot of missing "regulars" this year and hope it's not a reflection of times to come.

Most everyone was staying at the Bogachiel rental house on Thurs/Fri and we had the usual pot-lock and poker game get together at the house. Lots of good laughs and good times were had. No one really demolished themselves as most people seemed human the next morning.

The Bogachiel was DIALED. The water was at a perfect flow and had a perfect color. You couldn't ask for better river conditions. The weather was cold and clear, but not overly brutally cold.

The potato guns were primed and many a potato was sent flying in the skies above Forks. Only causalty may have been a near miss at a civilian boat...but since that was MikeyZ, he was a good sport about it and didn't kill us at the end of the day.

As for fish..........

Suck it (Chad) broke one off up at the Hatchery Hole. Bob was on the oars and managed to get a fish to chew on a TadPolly for about a few seconds before it spit the plug and was gone.

That was it. ZERO fish landed.

Seems like the "high rods" guide boats that were working the river managed a fish.

Yes. A fish.

If you caught A FISH on the Bogi, you were THE high rod. Top Dawg. Head Cheese.

Not saying the hatchery run on the Bogachiel and Forks is in trouble, but man, they are probably in trouble this year. The fish are not late.......as their was a good push of fish on the high water at Thanksgiving....but they have all but vanished now.

Team Suck It took home the green jacket, as no one else wanted it. We think Bob has the trophy, as the Snoopy top on it broke last year and he was suppose to fix it. Don't think he did, and since no one really wanted it either, it was left to wherever it was or is.

I still had a fun weekend and appreciate those who showed up and participated. A great group of guys (and lady) and hope to see everyone plus a few more next year.

Oddly enough, it seems a lot of the SRC vehicles and boats got new bumper stickers this year......

Here comes the rain we could have used last week, hopefully hear some reports of more fish on the backside of this system. Looks like it's going to last a few days.

Strange not many fish on the Bogey. River has changed by the hatchery with alot of flow going around the island. You can easily wade across at the ramp. Parker why did you steal Hank's bumper sticker?

Ya. I fished the week before, Fri.-Sat the 30th-1st, off the previous weeks blowout. The Bogy struggled to clear on the drop. Upper Ponds on the Calawah were dead both mornings under perfect conditions. Heard of 2 at the Bogy handicap dock Fri. morning, nothing else. Saturday saw 2 around Bogy meat hole out of 20 guys and boats. Split at the launch is similar to last year. Easy to wade onto the island at the launch. Attempted to wade the finger on the back side. Too deep and fast. A boat fished it down w/ nothing. Lots of water flowing back there. Only a handful in the hatch creek mixed w/ some late summers. Hope they are late.
