A Comparable Look At Leadership

A Comparable Look At Leadership - 04/17/19 07:32 AM

I want to publicly commend the Leadership Team at the WA Chapter Of the CCA in regard to their recent Call To Action concerning the capitulations and concessions made by WDFW at the NOF bargaining table.

Having got that out of the way, I put forward two principles that have continued to serve me well over the seven plus decades of my life: they are, in simple terms, 1) leadership is something you can't do from the rear, and 2) leadership is something you do WITH people, not TO them.

A tip of the hat to Nello Picinich and his ranks for wading through the politics, blind loyalties and capital interests to focus on the foremost priority of the crisis at hand--the recovery, preservation and stride toward a sustained harvest yield of our fisheries resources--now, and in the future.

When Commissioners fold, and then midstream reverse course on gill nets in the Columbia, when the Director hastily endorses those nets as "selective" in nature (?), and the PSA hierarchy endorses both those positions it becomes glaringly obvious that their respective priorities are not in tune with the tenants of leadership noted above.

Still more evidence, and one more example of how Fisheries Mgrs on both sides of the border are failing miserably in regard to effective leadership...
