Check reports on Bloody Decks, nobody seems to either not post reports here anymore or are too busy with fish politics to fish anymore. Neah Bay is hot right now, not much info on Sekiu. Hatchery kings are evidently in short supply at Sekiu but they may be there when you are. We are going out of Westport tomorrow, it's been hit and miss for folks lately with long running times but we stuck a couple of nice kings two weeks ago. Bob R

Saw some pics of some pigs caught out of NB. Also heard Sekiu had lots of Nates in the mix. Their coming! Time to gear up!

The king fishing at Neah Bay (Swiftsure in particular) has been on fire since the season started. 25% of the recreational quota was caught in the first week and as a result, they went from 2 chinook to one effective July 8th. The inside (Waddah to mushroom rock) has been good also. This past weekend, the number of chinook on Swiftsure seemed to decline a bit but they picked up out at Blue Dot. Not many reports from further south. Juvenile black cod (AKA sablefish) are all over at Swiftsure and it's a pain to keep them off the hook while fishing for kings. The coho numbers at Swiftsure are way up also and it's difficult to get through them to king depths. Between the coho and the black cod, we went through 3.5 dozen herring to get two kings on Swiftsure.

Better hurry if you have a NB trip, as things have been hot. If I was a betting man, they are likely to close it down for King retention sooner rather than later, as the bite has been lights out. Can't imagine we haven't burnt through quite a bit of the quota already.

Oh,oh the bad News

WDFW FISHING RULE CHANGE

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091
http://wdfw.wa.gov

July 12, 2019

Anglers must release Chinook in Neah Bay beginning Sunday, July 14
Action: Closes Chinook retention.

Effective date: July 14, 2019.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 4.

Reason for action: Catch Area 4 is expected to reach its Chinook guideline at current catch rates, which would require closure of the fishery in the area; this rule should extend the fishing season to provide opportunity to access harvestable coho in the area.

Additional information: Waters of Marine Area 4 east of a true north-south line through Sail Rock are closed. The daily limit for salmon in Neah Bay remains at two salmon.

Anglers are reminded to always check for emergency rule changes prior to fishing. Rule changes can be found on the website at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/ or by calling the fishing hotline at 360-902-2500.
