Two days on the Ocean

Two days on the Ocean - 07/31/20 07:54 AM

Melanie and I went out of Westport Wed. and Thurs. Straight out 250 ft. of water or so, also south towards Willipa. 1st day Melanie caught a 6 lb., mine was 11.5. Thurs. I caught a 17+ and Melanie caught an 8 lb. 3 out of 4 were hatchery fish. No keeper coho, only two released. Great ocean conditions. Hopefully will last a little longer before quota is reached on coho as that seems to be the limiting factor.

Thanks for the report. We were at Westport/Grayland the weekend after the Fourth. Town was rockin' with tourists. Beaches were busy. The weather was near perfect. Fish checker at the derby weigh in said the king bite had been coming on for about ten days, after a slow start. The day we were there the big salmon was a 22 lb king; the big bottomfish was a 27 lb ling. Both seemed like undersized winners compared to the "good ol' days".

It's nice to actually catch real fish and provide real data unlike some who troll with a keyboard and don't catch [Bleeeeep!].

20 ft. green Duckworth, green with hardtop, named Evie_Kay after our moms. We used hoochies and were 110 to 120 down in 250 ft. as well, 2/3 of the way to Willipa. We were on Channel 69 but commies ate up the air with typical B.S.

Yes indeed, we will be out from Tuesday 'till Thursday if weather predictions hold like they are now. Wed. figures showed Area 2 at 22 % chinook and 18% coho, if the fishing stays good we're golden. We'll be out at least two days in that 3 day slot. We'll hail you for sure.

Thanks for the seat, and a wonderful day out in the ocean, Dungi. Was a pleasure to meet and fish with you and your crew.

If you find the FV Dunghamer, you'll find a trail of king blood. Most definitely worth hailing for on the ol' radio if any of you are out there.

Looks like weather is cooperative this week, at this point Wed. and Thursday look good for us. We are also looking forward to it. We'll bring gas money, but it will have to go in our tank. You encouraged me to brine up some herring, naked or helmets? Bob and Melanie

Went out south to the same area on Wed., looked for you. Didn't have a single bite, no bait marked . Very few boats, everyone went north. Weather has kept us from Hali fishing, rough tides and bar. maybe Wed.
