Hood canal chums

Hood canal chums - 10/15/20 11:41 AM

I thought I saw some of the Hood Canal river mouths allow for chum fishing after November 1.

I was hoping to take my young kids and try the bobber/herring thing. I've seen the Hoodsport scene and not really my deal (and sounded like the fish never showed last year anyway).

I don't know what the run is projected to be (not great I'm sure), but anyone fish some non-Hoodsport mouths/rivers in Hood Canal in recent years? Any general areas worth exploring?

I haven't fished the area for probably close to 20 years, but the beach along highway 101, just south of potlatch, used to be pretty good. It's all plastered with "no parking" signs now, so it doesn't get the crowds it used to, but it's not too long of a walk from the state park. I'd imagine the beach in front of the park would be decent fishing, also.

Pretty much anywhere you can pull off the highway north of Hoodsport in late October/early November should have some fish around.
