Don't they generally only open Spring Chinook on the Chehalis by emergency rule these days?

WASHINGTON Sport Fishing Rules, Effective July 1 2021 - June 30, 2022

You need to find YOUR copy of the above publication, and study it like your last dollars depended on it.

No Springer fishing, for 2022. Well if you were fishing for trout, in the Chehalis, Saturday before Memorial Day opening and happen to hook a springer, legally it must be released.

Trout and summer run steelhead, Saturday before Memorial Day. Trout min size 14"

May 28th is the Saturday before Memorial Day.....

Picture to the left, Wynoochee River, between Carter Ck and White Bridge, ONLY boat on the river that day. Joe Durham and myself had many enjoyable days, mid 1980's - late 1990's, then "the world" found the summer run Wynoochee fishing..... grrrrrr

Are we really sure that the Grays harbor streams will not close on Dec. 1 to protect wild steelhead again this year? Interesting.

Wild steelhead could be 4 or 5 life cycles before any real amount of returning Wild steelhead rebound, if even then.

Probably a smart move would be to "back off hatchery winter run steelhead plants", that only encourage many fisherpersons to fish on the hatchery S Head, and maybe hook some wild steelhead that WDFW is trying to protect.

Smart move, IMO, would be planting many summer run steelhead and few hatchery winter steelhead, might help save the Wild steelhead????????

We know the Humptulips, Wynoochee, could handle more summer S Head but maybe the Satsop, the Hoh, and maybe the upper Chehalis.

Re: 2022 2023 fish regs - 05/19/22 07:29 AM

In the experiments with freshwater fertilization the general response is that salmon that rear for a year or more (coho and sockeye) respond almost immediately. In most cases, mykiss (resident and anadromous) have taken years to show a response in the adults. The Keogh had a immediate response in the rearing juveniles and this did result in a jump in adult returns.

So, it appears that mykiss has more controllers than the salmon. I agree with Drifter that we are decades out with meaningful wild anadromous mykiss recovery. That is, if we really are serious about mykiss recovery.

Just download the regs app bro! It’s pretty dope. I can access the regs on the go any time I need them from my phone. Its saved me many times over when on the road hittin up different spots across the state.
