WA Academ of Science Report on Pinniped Predation

Another report documenting the adverse impact of pinnipeds on samonids in WA: https://washacad.org/wp-content/uploads/...er-Coast-1.pdf.

I was particularly pleased that they included the conclusion that indigenous peoples were keeping pinniped numbers below the current populations.

Good to know. Their egging was also keeping cormorants down.

Curious if anyone knows how this "Committee on Pinniped Predation on Salmonids" is selected? Do you apply? Is it appointed? What criteria is used? Thanks

Good question. I went to their website (https://www.washacad.org/) and it seems that one needs to be nominated by another member in good standing to be eligible for membership which might lead to a form of nepotism.

As for the Committee itself there are nine people listed and I ran those names against the 2021/2022 list of WSAS members provided on the website and of the 9 Committee members only 2 are listed as WSAS members unless I missed something.

Agreed. Seems the same ole "It's not what you know it's who you know."
