It is great on my favorite pattern, the polar shrimp of course, but I wouldn't use it until I had mastered that fly, the stuff is somewhat tuff to come by at least thats my situation..

John Shewey's books have a number of polar bear hair patterns. You can still find legel polar bear in fly shops at times but it is pricey...last time it was about $12.00 for about 2sq inches, and the quality was poor. I just wish I could still get seal fur in the US.

Polar Bear, and Artic Fox is the preferred wing material in traditional steelhead flies. You can just substitute for the calf tail.
I would recommend it be used only on the smaller flies, as it is quite a bit softer, and I did not like the action on bigger flies.
