Let's hear what ROD's you guys are using - 07/02/04 12:33 AM

While I spent the last week with Bob Meiser Rod, called Fred Evans Special!
Yea that Fred Evans, It was a pleasure to cast it 530 – 580 grains.
It handled the wind just right, I ended up just casting it not really fishing, and I started casting for distance bad sign to much fun casting it.

9' 5wt Sage DS and 9'6" 8wt Sage DS. I like them both but the 8wt is a struggle with a type 6.

Just an old GL3 9'5wt for the summer and a 9'6" 8wt St Croix for the winter. And maybe a GL2 7'6" 4wt and a Sage 9' 6wt throw in for other things. You never know what you are going to fish for until you get to where it is you are going. And these four rods cover all that I need along with several different lines.

Jim... I try to keep it simple. what

Sigh ... have 13 or 14 two handers, and several single handers.

End game is for short work I'll use a single hander (usually a Sage 7100 xp with a sink tip) or a couple of spey's with dry lines appropiate for the water I'm expecting.

A good thing about the Rogue is you can get very good water flows off the 'web' so you're pretty well matched before the car leaves the garage.

Love It!!
fae

Pooie! Should have added: Interesting to see the water gages 'on line.' You know the flow out of Warm Springs dam , Dodge Bridge, Gold Ray, Grants Pass, etc. Flow from the top is (now) 1720 cfs, and at Gold Ray it's dropped 200 cfs. Evaporation/irrigation?

Who knows, but 200 cfs is a lot of water in 30 miles of river.

Out of my current rod collection, here is what gets used!

Winston LT 1207- Trout fishing on med to large rivers, mainly swinging soft hackles. Casting distances of 20' to 70'. Favorite lines are a DT5 or WF5.

Meizer Switch 7/8- Summer SH on med. to small streams. Using a standard WF single hand #7 on it.

T&T 1307- Summer SH on medium to large rivers where fish are going to average around 7#'s and casting 50' to 90'. Favorite line is a Wulff TT#7.

Sage 7141- Summer SH when casting 70' to 100'. Favorite line is Wulff TT#7.

CND Salar- Both Summer and Winter SH in large rivers. Expected average weight of fish to be in double figures. Casting 70' to maximum distance. XLT 7/8 for summer fishing and XLT 8/9 for winter fishing.

Bob Clay 1308- Hollow Fluted Cane two hander. For when the 'mood' is right, used only with greased Silk DT#8 or DT#9. (Depends on average casting distances.) I fish this rod from 50' to 80'.

Since I joined the CND team I have sold off every other steely rod I own to buy more lines and reels to fit the 13 two-handed models currently in production - with several more models coming out in August for the fall greased line season.

I have my hands full (both of them) just trying to give them equal time on the river!
