Skeena Fall Steelhead - 12/21/04 10:28 PM

I have always wanted to go to BC in the fall and wondered if anyone had suggestions. Willing to go on edge of prime time ie late Aug or even mid-late OCT. Figured I would need to go guided a few days at least or maybe a full blown guided week and then solo in the future. I like the guys that run the Spey Lodge and might try them as I can work on my spey casting all week as well, they do some cool trips away from the masses which is important if possible. Guides, best run timing, lodging, camping info appreciated.

Summer run,

I haven't fished Skeena country for a long time, mainly because it's a long way to drive to fish in conditions that became about as crowded as fishing here. My favorite time was the last two weeks of September for fairly good weather and fish abundance in most rivers. If you go on the timing margins, you have to pick your water carefully, or you may not find fish. A guide is a good idea, but not necessary.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

you may want to go in october....more fish and fish in all the systems then. Water levels due to rain can be a problem, but there is usually some plcae t fish and in recent years the best fishing has been mid october and early season has been a bit of a bust. Last part of september has been very crowded but it is prime time.
