Another sink tip question

Another sink tip question - 01/28/05 09:45 AM

I now have a multiple tip shooting head system and thanks for the help with that. My question is: How do you select the right tip for conditions? Do you touch bottom every cast? I don't seem to feel any contact until I load up too heavy and hang up on the bottom.

I try to find a sink-tip that will just tap the bottom two or three time in each drift, your flie will ride higher than your tip will (try to keep your leader less than 4ft. long).

If your up in Washington, get a hold of Mike Kinney up in Oso Washington. He, like Ward are the Jeddie Masters of sink tip work.

Mike, via Bob Meiser (Meiser fly rods, the coolest, best designs you can get your hands on .. NO SHXT!) did a class for us folk down here in So Oregon last week. It was a 'eye opener' to say the least. Amazing what you don't know, or were 'doing really wrong.' Schist!

Even if you 'hire' him as a 'guide' for the day it's worth every penny!!
