What are the basic fly patterns for rainbows? What about sea-run cutts?

There is a lot of fly information on the web but it really depends on the waters you are fishing and their insect and other food sources.

Hell of a answer. beathead

The basic flies that are used for RB's are Elk Hair Caddis,Humpies,Stimulators,Adams,Royal Wulff's. Streamers such as Wooly Buggers, and more Wolly buggers. These are tied in many colors and patterns.
And if you are fishing in the Salt water for Sea Runs,Streamers and other flies that are tied up like bait fish will get you into fish. And if you choose to fish for Cutts in the fresh water. Most top water flies will take fish. Just like the ones used for fishing for RB's.

I tend to use dries as I don't like fishing wet flies/Streamers in fresh water rivers and streams. I'm just a dry fly kind of guy.
