Upper Columbia & Snake

Upper Columbia & Snake - 09/28/05 08:15 PM

Anyone been to or going to the Snake, Clearwater, or Grand Ronde? I see there's no word yet regarding a Methow opening. Do you suppose WDFW will post that at 5 PM Friday? I may call the regional office tomorrow and see if they have information to share.

I'm getting antsy for fall steelheading. Anyone else?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

3 weeks !! Well, that's the best way to be certain that you will be there when a big pulse comes by. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Hey Salmo_G,

Just got back from 3 days on the Clearwater and Snake. Only fished 1 afternoon on the Snake - the fish were there but the temp was 61 to 62 degrees and the fish were a bit "plucky". All i got was a 14" Smallmouth for my efforts.

THe Clearwater was very low and fish are migrating in spurts. I lost one on the lower river in two days of fishing. Found out later that the middle/upper river was the place to be. It's never a good sign when there are no trollers in the "pond".

Moderate traffic on the Clearwater, there were very few people on the Snake.

FWIW, it seems that the fish are late on the east side as well. The A/B percentage is more indicative of early September than early October.

Good luck if you go - I'm hoping to give it one more go sometime in November.

Tight Lines!

Hey Homer - good to hear from you!

Drop a line to Mike at the Shed - he sends his greetings and will be happy to hear you're headed over for a little steelie-chasing.

I'm thinking that November will the time to be on the Ronde - the crowds will have thinned out and the bulk of the run will just be arriving. hello

Tight Lines!

I'll be fishing the Ronde Oct. 12-16. Staying somewhere between Bogan's and the border.

Anyone going to there at that time? A friend will be there also driving an old VW bus with the ugliest paint job ever.

Tight lines, Dave

We knocked them real good at the confluence area. Also, my buddy and his friend had a 25+ fish day in the c&r area on the Clearwater on tuesday side drfiting. Probably old news, but the Upper Columbia opens tomorrow.
