Kalama FlyFishing only

Kalama FlyFishing only - 10/05/05 08:54 AM

I have never hit the Kalama for Flyfishing only. I live in Bothell and spend most of my fishing time on the Sky. It is close to my house and if you are willing to explore there is a lot of water so I don't have to fish in crowded areas. I am wondering if it is worth the drive to hit the Kalama. I have a few questions as well, what will I be targeting silvers or Kings? Where is the best water (just need a general point in the right direction I am willing to explore). What kind of water is it? Is it worth the drive? I try to flyfish only so, it is tough to hit the best spots sometimes on the local rivers. Thanks in advance for any info.

During the fall, all I do is fly fish the Kalama. Was having multi-multi fish hook-up days in the last couple weeks. Use small pattern (6's and 8's). The best place to start is the fly water above Mehaffy's campground. That is beginners hole. Lots of great water with a bit of chrome fish in it right now (report as of 7:30 am this morning). If you need any other info, let me know.

Thanks Steely,

I am going to head down in about ten days. I hope it is still good. I fished the Kalama for steelhead before in Feb. Seems like a very manageable river. I am looking forward to it and will let you know how I did. Any color or pattern specials, you don't have to give away your secrets but, a nudge would be great. THnaks again

Kings will be gone.
Only a few in the river and mostly dark.
Silvers are just starting to come in, and in what numbers is anybodys guess.

Your best bet will be to go after steelhead.
Polar Shrimp have been good, and the past few days we have had success with Max Canyon. Charteruse Wooly Buggers and Bumblebees for Silvers.

Send me a PM if you would like any more information.
