Early July Fishing Suggestions - 05/12/06 04:33 PM

I have the unique opportunity of taking off the first couple weeks in July and could extend it for an entire month if I want. My wife is going to be gone for 6 weeks so I'm going fishing somewhere for at least a couple weeks.

Right now I'm considering quite a few different options and I'd like to here some comments or suggestions for other trips to think about.

Trips I'm considering......

*Belize/Christmas Island/Bahamas for some warmwater fun.

*Montana lakes and rivers for trout.

*Kamloops area.

*Leave the boat in Neah Bay and bounce back and forth between the salt and rivers around Forks for steelhead/salmon. If the summer steelhead runs were better on the OP this would be my #1 choice but summer fish are pretty hard to find out there.

Chasing Bones and Tarpon would be pretty high on my list but July in those warm areas is not the ideal time to make that trip.

Any other suggestions or comments on the ideas I posted. what

christmas island for giant trevale would be a kick ass trip. My dad has done it a few times and loves it.

Staying closer to home i think i would road trip to montana and explore. No shortage of opportunities over there that time of year. head down to the park, rock creek, the missouri, st joe, madison, clark fork, the list goes on and on..,

Christmas Island. And it's no hotter there in July than it is in January. It's so close to the equator that the weather's the same year round. You should love it. It is a salt water fly fishing paradise. I went last November and will be going again this coming February or March.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm also thinking about towing the boat up to Vancouver Island to chase salmon and those other fun fish that hang around the kelp and rocks.

Any experience up there or insight as far as salmon runs and their timing.

I'm going to save the exotic stuff for when our weather is crap and I need some sun.

Also, I'd like to be able to take my Lab with me so I'm going to stick aorund the greater northwest.

its a little earlier than i would head up to Vancouver. It would still be cool but i would ideally go later in the summer.

I am headed to the Missouri for 3 days June 15-18.(with room for more people if anyone wants to go) I am sure it will still be as good as it was the last time i was there. It is a river you should try to experience.
