Jimmy Green Memorial Fly Fishing Fair - 06/01/10 10:48 PM

For the second consecutive year, all the fly shops in the local Puget Sound area are presenting the Jimmy Green Memorial Fly Fishing Fair and Casting Expo. Named for the famed flyfisher who, besides pioneering modern flyfishing rods and lines, worked tirelessly to bring new people into the sport he loved.

At the Fair, families can meet and talk to the owners of your local fly shop; meet the local guides and outfitters who ply our waters; meet members of your nearest fly fishing clubs and organizations; learn to cast a flyrod; go to a Fly Fishing 101 class; learn to tie essential knots and what equipment you’ll need; basic bugs and how to tie them; attend seminars on Puget Sound beach fishing; lake fishing; and river fly fishing. For those who are already into the sport, there will be "for fun" casting competitions for both single and two-handed rods.

Look for the free raffles at the participating fly shop booths.

Featured demos and speakers: Anil Srivastava; Michael Bennett; Dave McCoy; Mike Kinney; George Cook; Al Buhr; Ryan Smith; Jerry French; Leland Miyawaki; Dan McCrimmon

Also look for Tyler Kushnir coming down from BC and Poppy up from Redshed!

This is a great show designed for the new and beginning fly fisher, so bring all your friends!

It's all free with great Pulled Pork Sandwiches and cole slaw by Jerry Daschovsky.

Jim taught me how to fly cast years ago when he designed fly rods
for Fenwick he was a good man. He had several ponds with some
real nice trout.

One of Jim's ponds had largemouth bass. I enjoyed catching a few one evening after I spent the late afternoon photographing Jimmy for the cover of the Fenwick catalog. I think that was about 1983. We did the photos on the Dungeness, if I recall correctly.
