Anyone have a 12 wt... - 07/04/12 05:30 PM

... that I could possibly borrow?

I've tied up a pile of these:

and have decided that this will be the summer when I finally attempt albacore on a fly rod.

*I treat my gear well, and borrowed gear even better.
*I would be happy to draft up any sort of 'contract' and pay a deposit for use of a rod.
*I will pay/reimburse all shipping.
*Rod DOES NOT have to be of great quality. (I'd rather is wasn't)
*I'd prefer 12wt +, yes, I know albies can be had on a 10, but if I fiddle fart around with lighter gear and impact the rest of my gear wielding crew's fishing time/ability to stay on active fish, they are likely to leave me on a chunk of floating tsunami debris.
*I have a reel.

I really hate asking to borrow anything, but seeing as how this is likely to be a very infrequent pursuit, I'm not in a position to invest in a rod of my own at the moment.

End of July-August will be the likely timeframe. Weather windows change quickly, so I can't exactly narrow down a specific range of 'usage' dates.

Thanks much!

Lovely Twitch. Top shelf work as always. Quite an artist you are, perhaps perfectionist is a better word. Look forward to the albi + fly rod pics and story.

Tiemco 811S?

I especially like the "par" marks on the first model. I use the same technique (sharpie?) for smolt patterns with mylar minnow bodies smile

I don't own a 12wt...yet.

Well, the report....

Yesterday was one of those frustrating days of tuna fishing; a long grind, no jumpers to spot, no bird action, no kelp/debris to work.

We'd troll swimbaits until a rod would go off, drop more sb's on the slide, toss chum. then wait...and wait... and.... then take back off on troll hoping to find a large group of fish.

Picked off rogue singles and pairs most of the day. Picked up one quad. There was just nothing we could turn into a good stop/chum/stationary boat show. Any piscatard can troll something behind a boat and pull on fish. That wasn't my intent for a 'fly caught' tuna. So, the rod stayed safely in the cabin.

We were in 63.3* semi-blue water 8 miles out, hit the first fish at 12. Stayed close enough to shore to keep the gas bill very respecable. Ended the day with 27 fish, with a doz or so break offs, hook pulls, crackers...

Stay tuned for trip #2
