Mountain goat hide - 08/02/13 05:43 PM
Is there a market for mountain goat as a material for fly fishing?
My grandmother just gave me one to sell if it makes sense.
Any help would be great.

yes there is a market... some people prefer it over Polar Bear which is near impossible to get, and when its found, is expensive as hell...
how much are you looking to sell/get?

I have a small but full hide. Maybe three feet by four. My grandfather shot it in B.C in the early fifties. The edges are pretty scraggly but the hair itself is long and full.
I am very familiar with buck tailing and the value of Polar Bear hair and that was the motivation to post the question- it has the same legnth, color and weight... It has to be useful.
I am not sure the price, hence the post. I suggested to my son that he should cut it into four inch or so pieces and put it in plastic bags and list them on eBay. I am just not sure how desirable it is or pricing.
