Yakutat Fishing - 01/05/01 02:03 AM

Thanks to all who posted and suggested info on Yakutat lodges. We were able to get into the Glacier Bear Lodge August 26- Sept 1. We are now looking for any info on tackle, charters, places to fish, must bring items, must see or do things. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff Cramer

Try to take all the tackle you may need as it is very expensive up there. Pixie spoons work well for Silvers. Good fishing to you and done forget to take a camera.

If you find that you did forget something when your up there, there is a guy who runs a little tackle store across the parking lot from the G.B.

Your either going to need rain gear or bug juice every day, maybe both depending. Other than that, bring a wide variety of gear. We have had fun switching things up and finding things the fish up there don't always see.

Be sure you go to the wild animal park....er, I mean the dump while you are there. You'll see some of the largest grizzlies you can imagine. There are a couple real old boys that go out around 9' or better (not that I ever got close enough to measure). Know that they are around, always. There is also a number of uptight moose that prowl the area, every bit as dangerous as Mr. Griz.

There are a couple of locals that hang out at the bar at the G.B. that get loaded and then enjoy trying to start something with out of towners, fyi.

Other than that, bring the usual silver gear and an easy going attitude. People don't always move real fast in Yakutat and thats the way it goes.
