Kokanee

Hey I was wounderin if any of you great:eyesroll: fisherman fish for kokanee and if so what kinda of tec's do you use. I am going to start fishin for them and my roommate is a very big $hit talker and I would just like to put his in his proper place thats all so any help would be great

Kokanee is just a land locked sockeye, a little smaller version.

Use what you would for sockeye. I would suggest a small silver dodger, or ford fender flasher setup, with a leader and a 1/0 to 2/0 red gammakatsu hook. Tie some pink crystal flashabou to the hook. You want a slower troll.

One of my favorite fish.

Ford Fender Model 'T' with half&half finish, 3 feet of 4-lb leader, #6 baitholder hook, half a nightcrawler & a kernel of white corn.

Troll pretty shallow early in the season, around 10' deep. The bite just turns off and on throughout the day. Follow the boats!

A VERY tasty fish is the kokanee. Don't set the hook or pull 'em too hard, their mouths will just come apart

There is a certain Westside lake that I hit that has a fairly deep hole that holds a good number of Kokanee. I just jig a chrome # 2 0r 2 1/2 Buzz Bomb and they go nuts over it. Found this technique by accident just screwing around one day. Give it a try.

I have all different types of rods and was wounderin what length and line weight you know that sorta stuff.

Arent they as big as the fish themselves???

Troll the smallest set of pop gear you can find with a wedding ring ring and maggot tipped kokanee killer hook. Kokanee are usually deep, so weight this with a 2 to 4 ounce banana weight. Use any pole that you think will handle the weight.
I have also caught Kokanee on corn 3-16' below a slip float with whole kernal corn.

Here is what I use: Sepps silver/pink dodger (about the size of a 4/0) followed by spinner made up of a #6 red Gamakatsu, 6-7 3mm red flourescent beeds and #0 silver spinner blade. Bait with maggots or anise flavored Spoepeg corn. I tie the spinner on 6 lb test and use a leader length of 14-16". Early in the season this set-up long lines nicely (I think it runs about 10' deep). As summer progresses and the fish hold deeper I start using my downriggers so I can play them on my light action 7' spinning rod.
