It shouldn't matter whether you have a liscense in 50 other states, and 20 countries. It doesn't matter the order in which you purchase your liscense. Bottom line is that you can only be a resident of one state (the one in which you reside) and all of the others must be purchased as a non-resident angler. Most states offer 3 day, 7 day, and annual liscenses to non-residents. My experience has been that most of the non-res annaul fishing liscenses will run around 40 bucks, plus any special stamps and/or permits. Sounds like you may need to go back to Fred Meyers for a refund. Hope this helps.

It's still BS. You can't be penalized for fishing in another state. You fishing in other states is none of their business. As long as you are not trying to declare yourself a resident in two states, they can't touch you. Have you ever heard of a warden ticketing someone in Washington, because they didn't have their Minnesota non- resident liscense in their possession? Unfortunately, I buy between two to six out of state annual liscenses per year, and have never heard of such a thing. Go get your money. I think you ran in to someone who may have charged you a non-resident angler fee, because you fish in more than one state. Good luck

The mistake is they are trying to charge you the non-resident fee. I had the same thing happen, I just told them to cancel the thing and I would go to another store that knows what they are doing. Went to a Big 5 and was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The person just clicked on the wrong license. It still isn't fool proof when we are dealing with operator error.

I have never been asked that after 6 years of Washington licenses. That's the problem with places like Freddie's where the bubble gum clerk don't know the difference between a fishing license and a lotto ticket.

That's why when I can , I like to support the independant sports shops where they know something. You may pay 10% more for your packet of hooks but at least you can get the right advice when you need it. :p

Sounds like the usual Governmental bureaucrat BS! 2 weeks ago my wife and I went to Bob's Sporting goods in Longview to buy our new fishing licenses. There were 2 lines with over 10 persons in each line. After we purchased our licenses and we were sitting in our car in the lot I realized that the clerk, who was supposed to be trained at running the new computers and policies, (that we are now being charged for) never even asked one single person for their old salmon or steelhead cards. This place sells thousands of fishing licenses every year. So how now many punch cards and their data was thrown away?

More money to the barraters and less money to our fisheries sounds like the way it will be until WE make the change. Don't sit there and let it go by! Get your money back and make an issue of it. That is the only way the bureaucrats will ever learn to think!

Cowfish,

It has been at least 20 years since I was asked at a sport shop for an old punch card. That is why they have the address on them now so WE the sports folks can mail them in ourselves.

Aren't resident licences only $20 plus dealer fee and new tax?

Supporting your local sport shop is not going there to buy your license. rolleyes rolleyes

If you really wanted to support them, you would buy your license at a chain store and buy your tackle at your local shop.

Why don't you guys just buy your license over the phone? No, you don't get your tags right away but you get a license number that's the same thing if anyone on the river asks any questions. No lines, no hassle.

Ryan, I am not sure I understand your point about not buying licenses at the local sport shop. Are you thinking that it is a waste of their time because they don't make any money on licneses? I know they don't make money on them, but are usually glad to have people buy licenses and whatever else they pick up in the shop.

If a shop owner does not want to bother selling me a license, then I don't want to bother buying my bait and tackle there either.

I did once run into a guy who acted like it was a pain in a*s to sell me a license, and that day it was the only thing I bought there. What he didn't think about is that during the season I stopped at his little shop a couple times a month to buy bait, hooks, floats, lures, whatever I needed that day. I still do becaue I like the shop.

why dont we put a bill on the senate table, raise the price of salmon punch cards to $200.00 and have the extra money used to buy out the non-treaty salmon fisherman
