ILWACO REPORT AGAIN ? - 08/06/01 03:40 PM
Well, since "Spooled" asked the question here it is. Bouy 10 sucks right now (at least this weekend). It was ugly, crowded, and the fish were not on the bite. Two natives, and two other take downs. That was it. Sunday, ocean, crossed a nasty bar at 5:45 am. Should have stayed home. Fish what started out as a calm but slightly rolly ocean. Had five souls on board (no Pukers). Gentle breaze turned into 25mph winds north of the CR bouy. Got real ugly, picked up and headed in. On the way in we Stopped at bouy 4 where it was a little better to get the last two fish.
All in all, I got pretty beat up and should have stayed home. They lost another boat at Bouy 2 yesterday, Everybody was ok but it just was an indicator that my first gut instinct was to stay in. Next time I will trust that instinct.
All but 3 fish were small one fish at 12 lbs two others at 10. Rest were 4 to 6 lbs.
Just glad to be back safe and sound. Just need to throw away that days underwear. The boat washed out just fine.
By the way. The whole darn river down there was real ugly and you could walk from Ilwaco to Clatsop Spit on the Boats. Saw lots of collisions out there where doughballs were not paying attention.
