Check your trailer HITCH!!

Saw the darndest thing on the way to the Mariners game tonight. A white Dodge Ram towing what looked like a small enclosed utility trailer had dropped the entire HITCH off of the truck! It looked like a nice sturdy frame-mount Class III too. Luckily it appeared that the driver noticed that things were going to s__t, and put on the brakes, forcing the now-truckless hitch and trailer to scoot under the truck.

The really bummer part of this is that it happened at 4:00 PM, halfway between the 520/I-5 South merge and the Mercer exit, in the middle of five lanes of "weaving" traffic.

Next time you go to put the trailer on the hitch, give the hitch a once-over and make sure the bolts aren't coming unglued. :p

dodge had a recall on there trailer hitches omething about the welds breaking ?

A couple weeks ago I watched a guy cross the intersection while waiting for a light, he was towing a 19 footer and the trailer hitch lifted off the ball, the chains stopped it but the guy hit the binders and now has the imprint of his bow in his tailgate. The lesson is resist the urge to clamp on the brakes and gradually slow down, when something goes wrong. Also there is a recall on the Dodge Ram Factory recievers, the welds on the side plates crack I think it affects 99 and 00 trucks. Check on it if you have one.
