Sekiu report for 9/8-9/9, last trip. - 09/10/01 01:17 PM

Well,

I had a great year at Sekiu. My friends, family, and I brought a total of 280 salmon to our boat this year! We had lots of shakers, a few a bit larger than the bait they hit, and a few really nice fish. Biggest fish was a 35 pound king released after the king closure. Biggest silver was a 15.8 pound buck caught Labor day weekend. I just hope that I can repeat it next year.

This weekend I caught 16 silvers on Saturday with the biggest being a 14.8 pound hatchery buck. The other keeper was a 9.8 pound hatchery hen.

I got to meet StorminN, Norman, and his friends on Saturday. They are a bunch of nice folks. If Norman ever offers a ride on his boat, take him up on it, as he has a nice large Customweld fishing machine. They conveniently left their knives at home ;), and since I was in the market for eggs, I kindly offered to clean their fish. They had a nice bunch of big fish, and I got some eggs.

Sunday, Seacat, aka Kendall, came up and joined me on my boat. We fished the same thing, side by side, and he proceded to put on a fishing clinic. I caught five 3 to 4 pound fish, and LOTS OF LITTLE SHAKERS, mad, while Seacat caught good fish after good fish. I got pretty good with my dehooking dowel helping him release his fish mad. I think he ended up catching about 15. The last fish of the day was a nice 14.2 pound hen for Seacat, and he also took home a nice hen in the 8 pound range. Since none of my fish were worth keeping, I got his seconds. Oh well, I figure I had caught enough for the year anyway, and I wanted to give him a break, yeah a break. wink

I had a lot of fun hanging out at the cleaning station this weekend, playing the part of the "egg whore." "Hey mister, are ya gonna save those eggs?" was the standard line, and it payed off in the form of 2 gallons, yes gallons, of nice large silver eggs. I cured them in Wizard egg cure, hot lava orange and t!tty pink. So if someone needs a seat filled sometime on a sled or drift boat, I'll be your net b!tch and I'll bring the eggs.

See yah,

Andy

Dogfish,

Glad to hear you did good this year. I only got to fish out there a few times, should have gone out more since my brother and I bought a new boat for it last year but my love is the rivers and I have a hard time leaving them for the salt, even when the fishing is better. Dont know what it is about the rivers and the steelies but Id rather get one steelie than a but load of silvers any day.

Well it looks like I wont be getting anymore chances for the salt as Im off to Kodiak on Friday for a week of Steelie action on the Flyrod. I hope I can have fun as Ill be thinking about all the great washington fishing the whole time, NOT!

Anyways I hope we can get together next summer.

Hi Flick, Rich,

We will have to get together some time. I have eggs, so if you guys have tips for fishing, or the time available when I am up in your areas, maybe we can get together. Andy

Hey Andy,

It was great meeting you this past Saturday. Thanks for having a knife and cleaning our fish for us, I hope those eggs work out well for you.

I think that might have been my last saltwater trip of the year. My van made it back, towed the boat OK, but I think it's high time to put a new motor in it or get a new rig altogether. [how about a car loan smile :)]

Hopefully we'll see you out here river fishing this winter, if not, I'll see you in Sekiu next summer!!

Thanks again for the tips and info...
