Puget Sound opportunities...?

Puget Sound opportunities...? - 11/12/01 04:01 PM

Does anyone know where there might be some opportunities for success in Puget Sound for salmon right now? I have been trying to get some reports for the salt, but it seems that most fish are in the rivers. I would appreciate any suggestions from my fellow lovers of monofilament. Happy Veterans Day!

Thanks again.

Up north around Jeff head or a little closer would be Elliott bay from Alki across to 4 mile rock to in front of Salty`s for blackmouth.

I launched on Saturday at Shil Shol and headed NE to Apple Tree Cove. On the way we paused to take in the Killer Whales....they were everywhere. After we got settled in over by Kingston, we started getting into some small blackmouth, the kept one about 22"; he was a bleeder anyway. It was a fun catch and release opportunity. We just happened to miss the bigger ones.

Hi King Marine,
Just wanted to alert you and others that WashingtonLakes.com is now posting saltwater reports (this isn't spam as Bob and I have a mutual linkage of our sites). Anyway, there has been a recent increase in the number of reports being posted. You may find what you're looking for. And it would be great if you send in a report to let us know how you did. smile

There are a lot of fish at Columbia Beach but you have to fish it early and deep. I heard the SW bar of Possesion was hot on Friday. I hooked about a 8lb blackmouth out there on Sat. Good luck smile laugh

Worked Southworth today for five hours. Little to no bait, a couple shakers, and one lost small legal fish.

There is fishing all year around for salmon in Puget Sound. Right now there are chums in several bays from Chico Creek to Union and a whole lot of other spots. After December 1 South Puget Sound is open to young-of-the-year coho (12-16-inches) which grow to about 20-inches before they migrate out. Those that do not migrate out reach 4 or 5 pounds by mid summer. Those that migrate out of Puget Sound come back as 6-9 pound fish. They run right along the beaches (as they always have). I began writing about this fishery nearly 20 years ago. Also, winter blackmouth can be taken from the beaches through the winter. You just have to get down a bit deeper.

Good Luck.

Hey Les, how are you fishing for these salmon from the shore? What kind of set up do you use/bait etc.. Sounds interesting.
