Member Jeff Whitehead (Jeffhead) with one of his two Elliot Bay blackmouths, on a trip we took earlier this year.

And after we limited we tried for a bottom fish and came up with this huge King.

Well, I only got to go blackmouth fishing once this year, luckily we caught a good day, great weather, beautiful sunrise.

For once, my girlfriend and I were guests on someone else's boat... my girlfriend caught the biggest, of course... it was 14lbs.

We were out with John Keizer and Tom Nelson on John's boat (Puget Sound Salmon Charters) Those guys did all the work, put us on the fish, all we basically did was reel them in. This was 11/11/01, at Mid Channel Bank.

Here ya go 'Gar...

These are both spring-time blackmouth. The first is a Pt. Defiance beauty and the second is from up north a ways.

Re: Blackmouth - 12/05/01 11:31 AM

I have a question I'm sure that someone on this board knows the answer to.

Q: Why does area 8-1 & 8-2 close to blackmouth fishing during the prime winter months every year? Is it to protect smolt hooking mortality? Protection of early Puget Sound Spring Chinook?, and why just a one fish limit instead of two on a fish (blackmouth) that is of hatchery origin?

Any help would be appreciated!
